The owner Beverly was really sweet and friendly. When she knew that my friends and I were heading towards Hobart upon checking out, she alerted us that the roads on the route via Queenstown was not in good condition due to the snow and advised alternative route via Burnie. She is well-informed on such situations and we really appreciated it because we had limited internet connection in Strahan. She also kept us informed of shops closing hours and gave recommendations on activities that we could do.

The apartment that we got was clean and well-equipped with kitchen utensils, clothes rack, heater, tv, electric blanket etc. It just felt really homely. There is a designated area within the compound where we could do laundry. But there is only one washing machine and dryer. Washing detergent are supplied by the owners, with a kind donation asked for using.

The place is walking distance to the wharf (about 10mins) and supermarket IGA (less than 5 mins).

Staying at Castaway Holiday Apartments in Strahan was absolutely fantastic. Our hosts,Bev and Jim were extremely helpful in explaining all the different things to do and how to get there.
The apartment that we stayed in was lovely and clean and had everything in it that you needed.
It is a great place to stay for couples and families and the beauty of it is that you are very close to the main street where all the activities and shops are.
We have now found a great place to stay in Strahan and will certainly be back there again

We had a wonderful time in Strahan and would highly recommend Castaway as a great self contained option. It was our first time travelling with our baby and we were made to feel very welcome by the owners and the unit had everything that we could need. We stayed in the 2 bedroom option. Parking the car right at the front door to our unit was great so we could unload and load the car and bub easily. We visited in May so it was cold outside but the room was very cosy.

Based on Trip Advisor we were tossing up between Castaways and The Crays. We settled on Castaways purely on cost in the end.

The owners are new and seem to be continuing the good work as noted on previous reviews. The units are on the road and there was some early morning traffic noise as we were in the larger 2 bed unit which is closest to the road. Only a problem if you want to sleep late.

The units are located 5-10 walk from the town centre and very good local pub. The walk back is up hill and may be a problem for some, though not us.

We would highly recommend Castaways for its general cleanliness, closeness to town, and the supermarket which is only a 2 minute walk.

As for the Crays, it looked a really nice place also, perhaps a little further out, but no hill. Judging by the reviews of others I'm sure we would have been happy there too.
