“Beautiful place for a peaceful holiday”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012 via mobile

We stayed at Hawley House for only two nights but i would have loved to stay longer. We were on a 10 day trip through Tasmania and this was the nicest place we stayed at. Coming from a big city I love nature and quiteness on my holidays. The beach right down the drive way and the gardens with a lot of little ponds and even a cute little church let us spent hardly any time inside even though we stayed in a  lovely decorated loft room with a homely feeling and a beautiful view over the gardens.
Hawley House is a little far off from everything  but we came with a car anyway and as they do a delicious breakfast and dinner we didn't need anything that we couldn't have got in  the small towncenter 5 minute drive from there.
If we come back to Tasmania one day, we will definitively stay here again!

“Wonderful start to our Tasmanian Adventure”

Excellent location, wonderful home cooked meals, interesting owners..and who else provides a rooftop bathtub to relax in, under moonlight if you so desire!
No, I didn't partake of the rooftop bath offer, but my son certainly did..and the photos are so special that i may even post one onto this review at a later date!

Not sure what happened to the pre-dinner drinks that were mentioned on arrival..I certainly didn't get one!

My only other suggestion is that the owner's daughter (Sophie), who does a great job by the way, should try to smile at the guests, and interact with them a little more..it would make the experience far more enjoyable for everyone (including her too)!

Room Tip: Coach house was great..we stayed in an upstairs one, with balcony and view.

Thankyou for your review, and we are very happy to hear that you enjoyed your stay. Clarification for future guests - pre-dinner drinks can be ordered between 6:30p.m. and 7:00p.m. in the Drawing Room, and are not included in room rates - it appears this was a point of confusion with these guests, for which we apologise.

“The pavallion house oused rustic elegance!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

We stayed at the pavallion house which was just amazing.. Two families with 5 kids between us, the house was not pretentious, it felt like a home with plenty of space for everyone. Peacocks and houses in the from yard made it extra magical for the kids!
The hosts were very welcoming and helpful - nothing was too much :-)
Highly recommended for large family groups who love rustic elegance and a bit of adventure!

“Howling Hawley”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2012

We stayed at this amazing property recently. There is no question that the grounds and property are spectacular. Room cleanliness was adequate (a number of dead flies on the floor in a room with a booking for an infant not a great look) at best. Service was the major negative of the experience. Beyond general grumpiness, we were
1) billed twice for our booking
2) charged for consumption of products from outside, and
3) made to feel bad for having a baby and the nappy disposal (how this is different to regular trash i am unsure) that would be required.
The 2 stars are for the setting.

There is a significant gap in the information supplied in this review, which is explains the 'general grumpiness' of the service after departure. These guests booked a double room on a significantly discounted group rate. They in fact had 3 adults and an infant staying in the room and thought it highly unreasonable that a modest additional charge was applied. They also argued about items that had evidently been consumed from the minibar (to the point that they were refunded $3 for a soft drink), and left the room in a stinking sticky mess (involving multiple inappropriate nappy deposits!) Despite this, we waived the normal the $10 cot hire charge, we were still accused of it being 'ridiculous'.

“With Character!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 December 2011

We stayed two nights in the cottage house because we were a party of six. It was perfect for us as there was a big kitchen and plenty of bedrooms, and it was more economical than staying in the main house, especially since our breakfast was included (served in the restaurant at the main house). This is a place you visit when you want a place filled with character and surprises. If you're looking for the perfection and predictability of a 4 star hotel, you're missing the point of this antique home and grounds. The family members that own and run Hawley House are all thoroughly helpful and charming and love sharing their family home and business.
