Have been doing a lap of Oz again and stayed here for the first time. Ordered room service and the wife and myself had the best meal we have had in the nearly three months of motels and restaurants on the road. Apparently owners have just employed a new chef and what a chef. Could of eaten my eye fillet with spoons because it just fell apart and no cutting was required, it came with my choice of a baked spud with sour cream and bacon chips (other option is chips if you don't want the spud) and salad (or vegies). The baked potato took me back in time to Darwin's famous spud man in the early nineties it was that good. Had to hold myself back a bit saying how nice the meal was and how long it has been since we have tasted food so good so many times to the wife in case she took it personally.
Owners nice and friendly, rooms were very clean with fresh paint and not too old. Bathroom clean and refurbished with good constant hot water and a decent shower head. Rooms have split aircons that are newish,quiet and clean.
They are currently refurbishing the spa rooms to as new. Easy parking outside your room and all are ground level. Only reason sleep quality marked as average because mattress was a bit hard for my broken back.
Would certainly go back and stay longer to go through the menu. Hard to find good food on the road.

The staff are great! Nothing any trouble and friendly and efficient. Our room was an older one and whilst clean and roomy, could do with a refurb. Toiletries and bathroom accessories were good and complete with tissues etc. The restaurant and bar area are modern, well designed and welcoming. The food was very good and they have a good range of local wines from the many surrounding wineries. WiFi seems to work everywhere.

I stayed two nights at this motel in October 2011 and found, as most previous reviewers had found, that it is clean, confortable motel. The staff were courteous and an evening meal at the restaurant, "Henry's on Rouse" was fine, although service was a tad slow between courses.

The room I stayed in suffers a little from truck noise but I still had a good night's sleep. There is a wall between the main block of rooms and the New England Highway (Rouse Street) but it is not high enough to keep out the noisy trucks.

The Henry Parkes is one of a legion of motels around Australia that will need modernisation in the next five years or so to maintain their star ratings and value for money. I paid $140 a night - I have stayed at more modern motels for that price in towns of similar size. The furnishings are just starting to become dated, and the television set, whilst working perfectly, will need replacement with a more modern flat screen model to maintain changing expectations. A few more power points are needed to cater for the phone, laptop and camera battery chargers that travellers carry in increasing numbers these days.

Nevertheless, for a stopover in Tenterfield I would recommend this motel.

comfortable, well equipped room. the hotel was fully booked, so the only choice was the spa room. otherwise, we would have chosen a standard room. it was lovely! my husband had a sore shoulder, so after dinner he soaked away his pain in the spa. the following morning, it was chilly, but we had our coffee on the balcony, in the sun. also lovely! there was a bus tour staying at the hotel, so the dining room was booked out. no problem, we walked down the street to the tenterfield tavern and had a delicious steak dinner. we really enjoyed our stay, and would choose this hotel again. i would also book the spa room, it's set back off the road, which made it quieter.
