“Slightly disappointed”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 March 2011

We were slightly disappointed with our stay here. The fire alarm woke us up at 3am as it was beeping, as it needed a battery change. Of course this is totally out of the the control of the owners. Initially, we could not reach it to turn it off. So we tried to contact the owners (once we went up to the main road to get signal) who were unreachable on their contact numbers. We went up to the 'main' house, but there was no one there? We eventually broke the alarm off the wall at about 4am and could get some pieceful sleep. The owners weren't really peturbed of our incident. When we wrote to complain we didn't get so much as an apology. Bottom line is when you go somewhere pieceful, rustic to sleep, you expect to get some. So, if you don't mind being all on your own - literally, then this in the place for you.

The breakfast was good and the rooms okay. Ours was a bit musty and could have done with a spring clean. The nature is lovely and you do feel like you are literally in the middle of a forest. The intent to be magical is there, but some hospitality would have gone a long way!

“Amazingly relaxing & romantic”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 August 2010

Attention to detail makes Rustic Spirit one of kind, from the freshly baked biscuits awaiting us, freshly laid candles, pre prepared fireplace and the champagne and chocolates, no detail was left to chance. Flint Hill Cottage was just perfect in every way, the views are amazing, the cottage itself relaxing and secluded and very well equiped. The spa bath was complete with bubbles and candles and made our stay even more of a romantic escape from the real world. There is nothing Rustic about Rustic Spirit! - We will definitely be back!

“Relaxation to the extreme”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 June 2010

A perfect choice to get away from it all. Log fire, spa bath, candles and beautiful mountain surroundings to help you to relax and forget about the worries back in "real life". Breakfast hamper or breakfast in the dining room included, more than enough fantastic food, plus those extra special touches like marshmellows for your hot chocolate!

Staying at Rustic Spirit was a fantastic, and romantic, way to celebrate my 30th!

“Terrible Name, But Nice Place to Stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 December 2007

This property has several cottages to choose from and we stayed at the Flint Hill cottage at the bottom of the property, overlooking the bush valley.

A similar cottage to Flint Hill is about 30 meters away parallel to the cottage but you can't see into the other cottage and vice-a-versa.

The cottage is open plan with a separate bathroom which has a spa bath and stand alone shower. It has a queen bed, a pot bellied stove, small sofa and chair, small dining suite and a kitchen (sans dishwasher). The locally crafted wooden furniture is beautiful and we sooo wanted to take the coffee table home with us! The veranda was a great spot for kicking back and reading the paper/a book or just checking out the wildlife.

The only problem with the open plan setting was the noise of the fridge, which we just ended up switching off.

Other than that, we pretty much had the entire place to ourselves and the bird feeder on the veranda was very popular with the local wildlife, including a fat, friendly possum who popped her little head over the awning on the first night we were there and who was happy to be hand-fed pieces of fruit. She did tend to make a large thump as she landed on the bird feeder though! Can't get more Australian than a brush tailed possum!

Other wildlife does include snakes on the walking paths, so be careful if you want to go for a bushwalk. We didn't see any around the cottage though.

This would also be a great place for two couples, one in each cottage. It's quite relaxing and peaceful and you really feel like you're in the bush.

  • Liked — You're really in the bush, in amongst the trees
  • Disliked — The snake we saw on our bushwalk!
