We booked this motel sight unseen on the web only the day before our arrival. We were greeted by a very friendly lady who turned out to be one of the owners. This high degree of pleasantness continued for the duration of our stay.
The rooms are not large by any standard but are well planned so we were not tripping over each other.
Unusually the rooms have a front door and a back door that opens onto a covered landscaped walkway so that smokers can sit in comfort without being stuck at the front of the units. We don't smoke, but we were not at all inconvenienced by this arrangement.
Breakfast is also delivered from this side through a service hatch so you don't have to get dressed to receive it.
The meals are home style with the husband apparently doing all of the cooking, and it seems that he loves doing it. For example the breakfast menu is double sided with a huge selection of hot dishes to choose from. On the reverse is a packed lunch menu that is wonderous to behold.
We had dinner in the restaurant and it felt like we were all part of the family with people chatting between tables and the lady owner performing the waitress duties and chatting with diners in a very relaxed manner. As I said, the meals are homestyle but this did not detract from the quality or taste, and the prices are more than reasonable.
The restaurant is licenced but they were very happy for us to take our own. We drink sparkling shiraz with some meals especially on holidays and this was the only motel in a weeks travelling that would allow us to BYO.
I am trying to think of a good reason to go back to Gunnedah.
