“What spa break?”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

I was treated to a "Spa Break" at Cisswood - but, was very disappointed by the very tired "spa" facilities - not at all the relaxing overnight stay I was hoping for. The swimming pool was very cold; the jacuzzi not working but, still full of stale, stagnant water; and, the facial I received was over in just 20 minutes! The main hotel reception is welcoming and the food was reasonable. However, the facilities in the Leisure Centre definitely need a refreshment and refurbishment. As I was leaving, a group of women arrived for a Spa Day - how can the hotel continue to offer this with such appalling facilities? I would definitely not recommend this hotel for a Spa Break.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the end of the corridor with an empty adjoining room as noise travelled easily bet...

Thank you for your review, please be assured that the Leisure facilities are about to undergo refurbishment, first of which is a replacement Jacuzzi due to be installed in the next 2 weeks I apologise that our current one was out of order during your stay. I am also looking into new systems for heating the pool, redecoration of the pool areas and complete refurbishment of the changing rooms. I would like to invite you back to the hotel to view the refurbishment once complete and ask that you contact me to arrange this. I take all feedback very seriously and I would like the opportunity to provide you with the relaxing break you desired.

Our treatments within Serenity range in length from 25 minutes for a mini facial, other facials are available and can be arranged when making a reservation.

I look forward to hearing from you.
Kind regards
Vikki Pinch

“Need to get the heating fixed!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

I have stayed at the Cisswood several times over the last 18 months and twice in the last couple of weeks. If i wasn't there on business then it wouldn't be a hotel of choice. The staff are very friendly and very helpful, they cannot be faulted. The food is OK most of the time. In fact the meal this week was lovely. The problem I have with the Cisswood is the heating! Last time I went the heating in my room wasn't working so I had to borrow a fan heater from reception. This time the heating in the restaurant wasn't working and it was freezing! Everything else is absolutely fine and, as I say, the staff are all, without exception, very helpful and friendly.

Thank you for your review of Cisswood House Hotel, I am delighted to read that my team cannot be faulted and that you enjoyed the food, our new Head Chef is doing a fantastic job in improving the quality and standard of food offered in our Restaurant. As you know Cisswood House is a very quaint building which on occasion can experience anomalies in it’s heating system this is something we are looking into and I apologise if you were inconvenienced in anyway.

I look forward to welcoming you back to the hotel in the future

“A pleasant weekend break”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

We booked the winter warmer two night stay as it was my Husbands birthday. Reading the reviews we were a little dubious but we had a most enjoyable relaxing time in this quaint old style building. The staff were so helpful and friendly. The spa facilities were good with the pool and Jacuzzi heated to a nice temperature. The food was tasty and well presented. The only let down in our lovely spacious warm room was the very stained toilet 'get the bleach out cleaners'!! also the mildew on the tiles around the bath needed treating. The cleaner did take the rubbish out of the bathroom bin but left it on the dressing table top. May I suggest a little more training for the cleaners. Otherwise an excellent weekend break and would return and recommend to family and friends.

Room Tip: Room 48 was well positioned for leisure facilities.

“I was served what looked like road kill for dinner!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

This was a package bought under the title winter warmer anyone who has eaten in the restaurant in winter knows this isn't true, our order was taken in the bar we were advised it would be ready in 15 mins 2 minutes later it was served we were plonked in front of it after we had eaten the starter we were offered some bread and they served our wine. My main was meant to be breast of duck it looked like road kill blood oozed out of it no knife on earth could have cut into it, when we complained i was offered a complimentary cup of coffee, worst meal i have eaten in a uk hotel. Room 36 has no bath mat i slipped no complimentary water 3 tissues in the box bathroom smelt damp and walls are plasterboard so when no 37 started talking about how relaxed they were sunday morning at 6 am i answered i wasn't really, spa seriously needs a make over shabby with do not do this and that notices everywhere i bought this as an off peak luxury package it was anything but, the guy who works in the bar was friendly enough, but it was our worst uk break ever tired and lack lustre would not reccomend it to anyone. Not off peak luxury more like off peak misery

Room Tip: Don't chose in the new part especially room 36 you will literally hear them next door on the toi...

What a shame that you felt the need to write such a disparaging review of our hotel on Tripadvisor. All Duck and Lamb is served Medium rare at Cisswood House and guests are advised of this when ordering and I apologise if this was not the case on this occasion. All bathrooms have a bath mat for health and safety reasons and this is checked on a daily basis to ensure that they are still in place by my Head Housekeeper. We do not advertise that we provide complimentary bottled water within our bedrooms, we do however provide a well stocked Tea Tray and a member of the team would have been more than happy to provide you with a Jug of Iced Water had this been requested.

I have no doubt in my mind that had you raised your concerns with my Duty Manager on the evening they would have done everything within their power to provide a positive experience for you here at Cisswood House. I am sorry that we did not meet your expectations on this occasion and you felt a review as severe as this was the necessary course of action to take.

Kind regards

“Nice enough hotel shame about the food!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

We stayed here as part of 'One Night Free' promotion by Lloyds TSB. Great location so went for a relaxing country walk and enjoyed a couple of drinks in The Plough - excellent local pub. Brought swimwear but didn't like look of pool area - so can't comment on that. Booked dinner in the restaurant which was very disappointing and overpriced (£22 pp 2 courses) for the amount & more importantly quality of the food. The starters were okay, for main I had the duck which I had to send back - seriously overlooked, ate the replacement which lacked previous veg as it was edible & I was hungry, but very disappointing & obviously the best they could do! My husband had the belly pork which was mediocure. Decided to skip dessert and kicked ourselves for not buying some chocolate earlier in the day! Shame really, we were planning to stay for breakfast (our deal excludes breakfast) but think will leave and go into Brighton and grab a croissant en route - not sure I will feel value for money from the £11 pp will be charged for breakfast. Also a few biccies in the room to go with the tea & coffee would be nice.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review, we take all feedback seriously and address any issues arising. I am sorry to learn that you did not enjoy your meal in the Restaurant as much as you would have liked – we feel that £21.95 for two courses represents excellent value for money but I can only apologise that you felt we let you down during your stay.
Breakfast here at the hotel includes Full continental selection along with Full English, and a host of other traditional hot dishes. We also include unlimited, tea, coffee fruit juice and toast which I feel is definitely worth is charge of £11.95 per person.
Once again I thank you for your comments.
