“Great place to turn 50”

My wife organised a break here to celebrate my 50th. We had a suite with a fantastic view over the snow covered grounds. The room kitted out to a high standard, had a large seating area, very warm and clean. On our first night we ate with 2 friends at the pass. We had 8 courses with a glass of wine chosen to complement the food. The food was excellent and we got to try a number of dishes cooked and served in a way that was sometimes unusual, but in the main enjoyed by all of us. The service was excellent and we were kept informed of exactly what we were eating and why the wine had been chosen to accompany it. The following night we ate in the camellia restaurant with 6 friends. The food, wine and service were again excellent. The menu had options to please everyone. The communal areas of the hotel are wonderful. Staff are only too pleased to help and particular thanks should go to Warwick who put up with us into the early hours. It was very much a special stay in a great hotel with my fantastic wife and friends.

“One of the |Best”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

We first stayed at South Lodge Hotel 16 years ago, on our wedding night, and have been coming back ever since.

Never stay in the same room twice,as they all have such different characters. I personally like the old wing more than the new one, as I find the rooms have more character. Having said that the bathrooms in the new wing are fantastic and so big. My favourite room is above the receiption - cant remember the name of it though.

We have eaten in both the Camelia restaurant and The Pass - both are excellent. The Cellar is also a great experience.
The staff at this hotel are second to none - they are friendly, professional and very helpful.

Room Tip: Do try the pillow menu

“Much, much better than last time”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012 via mobile

I've stayed here before, about a year ago when the appalling service in the restaurant tarnished the whole stay, this time though we didn't eat there and the whole experience was really nice. The place is beautiful - a big old country house in the middle of nowhere with gorgeous gardens. My room was a lot bigger than last time - massive in fact with a huge bed and very large bathroom. Basically if you like period ye olde worlde English then you'll love it. Cleanliness wise yes it's clean though you'll never get it sparkling like a (soulless) purpose built. I have to say the pillows were awful for me, ridiculously soft - it is like drowning, and I unfortunately didn't find the pillow menu until the morning.
Toiletries are good, as are all the other hotel bits and bobs like a huge range of teas. It also had loads of nice touches - a cafetiere in the room, a tv guide opened to the date you are staying. All lovely.
The only thing I could fault it on is maybe too much service - at breakfast you have the Man that sits you, the lady that takes your order, the toast Lady, the Juice Lady, the lady who asks if you want toast, the lady who brings toast, the lady who asks if you want coffee, the lady who... Etc etc you get the picture. It's a little overwhelming first thing! Really lovely stay though

“New Year at South Lodge”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

This is an excellent hotel situated in the Sussex countryside. All services are first class, rooms are the best I have ever stayed in. Food quality is superb as well as the selection of wines. will definitely stay again in the near future

Room Tip: The suites are excellent with lovely modern amenities. I stayed in the Monarch suite and thoroughly...

“One of the best Hotels around”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

Joe and I have been coming to Sth Lodge for quite a few years now, just for 1-2 day breaks and occasionally 4 days in the summer. We stay in various hotels throughout the year but the views, beautiful rooms/suites , bathrooms with their stunning decor and huge showers really are gorgeous and always beats the other hotels hands down. The only problem we have is, when we are at the end of our stay we really do not want to leave !!!!

South Lodge is a beautiful hotel but not intimidating it is naturally friendly with an excellent service from the staff and always makes us feel special when we need that little bit of relaxation and escape from our hectic lives.

Thanks to Management and Staff who always make our stay a memorable one.
