“Very nice Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 October 2011

Stayed here for 1 night with my Wife and 2 small dogs. The hotel was very accommodating regarding the dogs. The staff are very pleasant and helpful. There is a nice field at the back to walk the dogs. Plenty of parking. Ok it is right on the A27 and there is some traffic noise, but shut the window, and you can hear nothing. The rooms are fine, lots of space, nice bed, free wifi. The TV was a bit small but didnt use it anyway. Nice clean bathroom. The food was superb, i had mussels in chilli, best ive ever tasted. I also had Fish n Chips, and it was superb. If you like seafood, your in luck, its excellent food here. The full english brekky was fine as well.
Its near the Airport and its cool to watch the small planes and choppers coming in to land.
All in all i would definantly stay here again.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back are quieter, rooms at the front you can watch the planes.

“Sussex Pad”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 September 2011

I have just returned from two nights at the Sussex Pad and fail to understand the negative comments on here. The room was perfectly adequate. And the restaurant served the best seafood I have experienced outside of Spain. 1st class. I can only deduce that their rivals in Sussex are posting negative comments out of spite. Yes the rooms were a tad warm but the aircon system worked a treat. It's on an A road, what do you expect, Police sirens!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I would definitely return. The Hotel proprietor was professional and polite.

Room Tip: Mumm was a very good room at the back of the hotel with aircon.

“A total rip off”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 July 2011

Have just got back from my stay at The Sussex Pad after attending a birthday party at a function room at Shoreham airport. We did know that the hotel was near the A27 but did not realise it was right on top of it. We originally booked it as it was so near Shoreham airport and thought we would be able to walk but it turned out to be at least 1/2 hour walk and my husband is not able to walk very far so a taxi was necessary anyway. We booked 2 nights and I have hardly had any sleep due to the noise of the traffic and the room was very hot but you can't have a window open because of the noise. The room was not particularly clean and very old fashioned and in need of total refurbishment - dirty carpets, old uncomfortable beds and old furniture. The TV was a joke - it must have been a 10"!! The bathroom was ok and looked like it had been updated recently. The bar prices were ridiculous and although the food was ok, not much choice apart from fish and very overpriced. They have got you over a barrel as there is no where else to go unless you drive and maybe you want to have a drink. Breakfast ok, had better, had worse. The whole hotel is really in need of refurbishment as everywhere shabby and tired. Some staff ok, others not friendly. A £100 a night, i feel totally ripped off and would never stay there again and would definitely recommend anyone to steer clear!

“Only Themselves to Blame”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 June 2011

Have stayed here a few times for work - but only when I had to - now I won't even travel if the Sussex Pad is the only option. First of all the part that isn't their fault - it is slap bang on the A27 and it is VERY loud at night. There is nothing close to the hotel so driving it the only option of you want to venture out on the evening. But worse is the part the hotel CAN help - the staff and owners are VERY VERY rude. When cancelling a booking they virtually slammed the phone down on me, they rarely interact with customers other than locals and the bar isn't exactly a nice comfortable place to drink. The rooms are old fashioned, basic and tiny televisions. The bar has the most expensive and most disgusting pint of Guinness I have ever ordered, the showers have low water pressure. There are plenty of places about this area if you book quickly enough - avoid this one.

“Bad experience and shocking prices.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 June 2011

We were travelling from Horsham to Worthing and decided to look for a place to have lunch. We saw the Sussex Pad and thought it looked interesting so went in to order lunch.
I ordered 2 drinks, a pint of Adnams at £3.80 - overpriced and a half of lager also overpriced at £2.00.
The menu was mostly seafood and appeared rather expensive, however we bit the bullet and placed an order.
I had herring, my partner had "crab". My paltry looking piece of herring was tastefully arranged on a large plate surrounded by some sad looking salad, this appeared to have been sprinkled with some tasteless "sauce" no idea what it was. My partner's "crab" was a tiny portion also surrounded by some sad looking salad.
To go with our meals we ordered new potatoes and chips both of which were OK if a little on the tepid side.
So all in all a very disappointing experience what with the ersatz "crab", the small portions, the perfunctory service and to cap it all the extortianate prices, we will never be calling again and will not be recommending the Sussex Pad to friends or family.

Richard,
Crawley.
