I booked into this hotel after a terrible experience in another hotel that resulted in me checking out about an hour after arrival and driving half an hour away to West Bromwich.

The Park Inn is a very modern hotel along the lines of other mid-range business style hotels. It's very close to the M5, has a free car park, health/fitness centre, bar and restaurant. The rooms are clean, a good size and comfortable. What you'd expect from a good 3* hotel.

What I like about this particular hotel is the staff. Friendly, helpful and they cannot do enough to make sure that your stay is a happy one.

The type of room I had requested was not available due to their being an airconditioning problem. However, the guys on reception put a heater in a room that had previously been closed off and opened the room up for me. They also sent up a hot, freshly ground coffee with the hotel's compliments. There was an issue with the TV remote and even when I told the young man who came to sort it out for me not to worry I could change the channels manually at the TV, he carried on trying to solve the problem. At first he thought it might be the batteries so he went and got new ones, and a new remote, when they didn't work, he went off and got a different type of remote - problem solved. Not a biggie, but he was running around to ensure the comfort of my stay for a good 20 minutes or so. Always with a smile and the reassurance that nothing was too much effort for him.

I ate in the restaurant and there was an excellent selection of food on the menu, plus a full carvery. I opted for a cajun burger and a bread an butter pudding. Both delicious, but there were other options on the menu including steaks, chicken, lamb, curries, pasta dishes, and stir fries. So something for everyone. The wine list was good too, an on par with the costs in other similar hotels.

But it really is the staff that make this hotel such a delight. I hope they enjoy their jobs as much as they seem to and I hope their managers appreciate their hard work as much as they should.
