just spent the last 3 days at this hotel, and will definately not return, not enough tables for customers for breakfast as "being used for a conference", some of the staff were helpful,but service was at best slow, even the most basic economy chain hotels have complimentary shower, hair products etc but not here.

we had our wedding at the roman way on valentines day . we had our own seat covers etc and the room looked amazing. The food was fab everyone raved about it and the staff were amazing nothing was to much trouble cannot fault them at all , yes the bedrooms were dated but were being done but our room the bridal suite was great .

This was booked as part of a package so had not reviewed the hotel prior to booking. Having read the reviews the night prior to our trip we were dreading staying here. Please, please ignore previous reviews the food was absolutely gorgeous and I for one am very fussy. The soup was homemade, delicious and I could easily have had more. The roast meal was superb as was the dessert. The breakfast the following morning was superb. The friendliness and helpfulness of the staff was second to none. There was a smell of fresh paint in the corridor which could mean it had read the reviews and decorated. We had no complaints with the room at all, others on the same trip also had no complaints and agreed with us about the dread of staying having read the reviews. All I can say is, the previous reviewers were probably correct at the time of their stay, but the management have obviously taken note of the reviews and greatly improved all within this hotel. Many thanks for a fabulous stay.

Writing a review when you have finally found the place you’ve spent an hour looking for in the dark when it’s raining and everyone’s lights are shining at you is perhaps not the best time to do it justice. However having been here before and remembering the difficulty finding the place despite use of satnav, we put in Watling Street since the postcode would be too big to pinpoint the spot. After half an hour patrolling Watling Street, we put in the postcode and half an hour after that we found the hotel seven miles from the alleged destination. The side road “Delta Way” would have been much more appropriate.

The hotel is on a busy main road but The Roman Way is virtually unseen from the road. In fact whenever you turn off for the entrance it looks a dead end with two large iron gates before you and there is a further hidden entrance to the car park beside some fir trees. The place is generally busy so people must find it. The map provided by Yell.com is quite useless placing the hotel on a roundabout, which it isn’t. The Google map is more accurate once zoomed in.

Despite booking online there was no reservation on arrival, the printed email being something of a surprise to the receptionist. The staffer was pleasant but said the hotel was no longer under the parent Folio group and one should go on the www.romanway.com website to book.

As mentioned by other reviewers below, it’s a long corridor to get to the rooms. If on the ground floor facing the car park, it’s best to toss your kit through the window to and from the car; damn nuisance if on the train however! Corridor and room exceedingly shabby but bed and bathroom were clean. There is no wi-fi here but reasonable mobile phone signals exist for 02 and Three. It’s handy for the industrial estate but the busy road makes it unpleasant to walk far. We find plenty of worse hotels but most of all this would benefit from an illuminated sign and better directions than on a road that’s over a hundred miles long.
