Apologies for the lateness of this review as I stayed here last August. I was so disappointed with the staff at The Copthorne and unfortunately it really marred our stay. I wanted to take my Mum away after a bout of illness and when I researched the hotel and noticed the Executive suites I rang the hotel to ask about the layout and if we might be better off sharing a suite rather than having 2 separate rooms. The lady completely misinformed me so when we arrived and stated we would prefer 2 rooms instead, I was surprised that the extra charge was going to be equivalent to the cost of another suite, how does that work out? 2 standard rooms for what would end up costing the same as 2 suites? We decided to stay put in the suite. I've noticed their website still claims the Executive suites have a separate bedroom and lounge, they do not, there are 2 "areas" but no door in between.
The next morning we went to the "Club Lounge" for the breakfast that was included in our stay. The room is virtually a shoebox with a sofa and a desk area and absolutely stunk of cigarettes. There was a half eaten pastry amongst a couple of other mini pastries. I went downstairs to inform them of the problem and request if we could eat either in our room or the restaurant. I was informed that this was not an option unless we wanted to pay for another breakfast otherwise we should go back up to the lounge. I understand a guest smoking somewhere they shouldn't isn't the hotels fault but also why should we be expected to eat in a tiny room stinking of smoke? I really didn't think it was a big deal for the hotel to organise a coffee and a couple of pastries for us to eat in another location but as the front desk were not prepared to budge we went out for breakfast. On returning to the hotel and letting the manager know how unhappy I was we were told we could eat in the restaurant tomorrow as if that was some kind of enormous favour to us even though we had 2 mornings of breakfast included anyway and had just paid to eat elsewhere. The staff here have a lot to learn about how to treat their guests and it's unfortunate that the manager couldn't apologise and offer the restaurant breakfast without making us feel that we were the problem. Also on our last night we couldn't get a parking spot for some time as there was a wedding going on which was a real pain after a long day out.
