i would like to thank all the staff at the longshoot hotel for another great weekend stay.the rooms and beds are clean, the food is exalant, great carvery for only£3-75p and the breakfast must be one of the best in england (self service full english ) fantastic.the rooms are a bit tired, but very good for the price. if you expect a pristine room go to another hotel and pay two or three times more for it. this is our fishing clubs 9th year at the longshoot hotel, and already look forward to our 10th stay next year. from all 20 members of the fishing thank you A L OAKLEY (chairman of the little hut fishing club) keep up the good work. i have posted this on the internet because i cannot understand all the negative feedback on the net.what do people expect for the price.

“You get what you pay for...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 July 2011

We enjoyed our stay at the Longshoot. It's fair to say the rooms are a bit dated, but for what we paid we felt we'd received good value for money. The room was clean and the bed comfortable.
Very impressed by the standard of food and again the fantastic value!
Staff were friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay there again. Thanks

“Regretful stay at the Longshoot”

Upon arrival we wanted to leave! We had booked one night stay via laterooms.com the price was £28.00 on the website but £34.00 upon checking in. That was eventually when the receptionist found our booking. Booked under my partners name and on his card yet they had my name on the booking...(i'm curious)! We got our room key (room 7) the only way to discribe it is trampy flats (without the homeless guy). We got in to our room which was very basic with windows that did not shut/lock (dangerous). We visited the onsite pub/bar and had a carvery (mmm tasteless) we proceeded through to the bar to find Xfactor "wanna be's' on the kareoke (different). Stay here as a very very very last resort...(very).

Room Tip: Don't stay here!

“This is a friendly cheap value for money Motel.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 March 2011

This is our fourth visit to this Hotel, we come from Essex and meet northern friends and family almost halfway.

On every occasion we have visited our rooms have been clean and the staff ultra friendly and helpful. Yes, it needs some more money spent on it but already it has improved a lot since our visit last year.

The onsite Pub/ carvery is excellent value for money and the drink prices reasonable. The Breakfasts are either Buffet or cooked for you depending how many guests they have eating there.

The towels and rooms have always been clean and , whilst the room decor is not exceptional they have always been quite and warm enough for us and there is always enough hot water!

We would go back again

“Very cheap, very shabby, nice staff”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2011

We arrived around 7.30pm to a packed carpark and discovered later it was the £3.50 carvery which was the big attraction,
Reception was locked but the intercom connected us to the bar/restaurant and after a few minutes some came and booked us in.Judging by the full car park I asked should we book for dinner which is when we found out about the £3.50 carvery and its popularity!
I asked the gentleman to reserve us a table and to ring us in our room when it was available.
The Hotel is a 60's style motel, very very run down, our room although clean was very shabby. Whilst the actual sanitary wear was clean we could not bring ourselves to use the bath /shower as the sealant around the bath and behind the taps and handles was thick with black slimey mould. There were holes in the wall and peeling wall paper.
After about 40 minutes our table was ready, so we went over to the dining room for the carvery, which surprisingly was not that bad and certainly good value . The staff were very attentive and fast despite the restaurant being packed.
After a sleepless night on what felt like a bag of horse shoes we looked forward to our breakfast, especially the vegetarian breakfast shown in the room folder. Sadly there were no vegetarian sausages available but they managed to put together a huge meat free breakfast for my husband and the usual eggs and bacon for me all cooked to order from a huge choice. On booking out the charming lady who served us breakfast was looking after the reception, she asked if there was anything which would have made our stay better! I did say the hotel is very shabby but very cheap which we took in to consideration but the state of the bathroom and mattress was unacceptable. She and the house keeper were very apologetic and said we should have complained about the uncomfortable bed as there were some rooms with new mattresses(in truth the mattress wasn't old just very very cheap) but thats a bit hard to do at 11pm in your nightwear.
The whole complex needs a huge makeover and refurbishment which I doubt they would get the return on in these days of Travel Lodges and Premier Inns.
I'm afraid the other reviews are correct, which is a shame because the staff try very hard.
