We arrived around 7.30pm to a packed carpark and discovered later it was the £3.50 carvery which was the big attraction,
Reception was locked but the intercom connected us to the bar/restaurant and after a few minutes some came and booked us in.Judging by the full car park I asked should we book for dinner which is when we found out about the £3.50 carvery and its popularity!
I asked the gentleman to reserve us a table and to ring us in our room when it was available.
The Hotel is a 60's style motel, very very run down, our room although clean was very shabby. Whilst the actual sanitary wear was clean we could not bring ourselves to use the bath /shower as the sealant around the bath and behind the taps and handles was thick with black slimey mould. There were holes in the wall and peeling wall paper.
After about 40 minutes our table was ready, so we went over to the dining room for the carvery, which surprisingly was not that bad and certainly good value . The staff were very attentive and fast despite the restaurant being packed.
After a sleepless night on what felt like a bag of horse shoes we looked forward to our breakfast, especially the vegetarian breakfast shown in the room folder. Sadly there were no vegetarian sausages available but they managed to put together a huge meat free breakfast for my husband and the usual eggs and bacon for me all cooked to order from a huge choice. On booking out the charming lady who served us breakfast was looking after the reception, she asked if there was anything which would have made our stay better! I did say the hotel is very shabby but very cheap which we took in to consideration but the state of the bathroom and mattress was unacceptable. She and the house keeper were very apologetic and said we should have complained about the uncomfortable bed as there were some rooms with new mattresses(in truth the mattress wasn't old just very very cheap) but thats a bit hard to do at 11pm in your nightwear.
The whole complex needs a huge makeover and refurbishment which I doubt they would get the return on in these days of Travel Lodges and Premier Inns.
I'm afraid the other reviews are correct, which is a shame because the staff try very hard.
