“Price not reflective of quality”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 August 2010

This hotel is ideally located within walking distance of the town centre and railway stations, which happily eradicates the need for taxis. However for £59 a night in a very small hotel you would usually expect a spacious room. This was not so. Upon entering the room you almost walk directly into the bed as the rooms and bathrooms are very small. However although a disappointing size, it was clean and proved to be comfortable enough for one night stay. Bed was comfortable and there was plenty of storage facilities plus a hairdryer. However parked outside the hotel was an ominous Rentokil van (not the most pleasant greeting) yet thankfully our room contained no unwanted guests. As we used the room only as a base for a few hours sleep after a night out it met our needs perfectly. However if you intend to spend longer here I would advise against it, as you are likely to feel too confined.

“Good value for money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 July 2010

We stayed in this hotel on a weekend trip to see family. As a result all we did was sleep here, arriving quite late in the evening and not going down for breakfast. The rooms were an adequate size and nicely furnished, albeit with slightly outdated cupboards. Beds were reasonably comfortable, and certainly better than some 4* places I have stayed recently! Shower rooms were small, well, tiny actually, but clean with new fittings. Be warned though, the showers are electric, not mains, so are quite noisy and you can clearly hear the showers in adjacent rooms. It seems that all the room rates quoted are on room only basis so breakfast is an extra £5-8 each. We didnt go for this so cannot comment on the quality. Staff were polite, but as others have said, reception is not staffed so you do have to find someone to help. All in all, for the price we had comfy rooms, in a convenient location and it was very good value for money.

“The accommodation is fine: the bar and restaurant lack the sophistication of Wetherspoons.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 July 2010

We stayed at the Chase as part of a group and were given a good discount. The room was clean and the bed comfortable. On this side we were quite happy. The staff, when you could find someone not already engaged in another task, were helpful and friendly. They were clearly overworked.

One of the reasons for our staying was that we were told there was a hotel bar with at least four cask conditioned beers. What was not said was that the bar was the size of a football field and it was almost impossible to be more than a few yards away from a TV blaring out the yoboball (even in the garden). Of the four cask ales advertised two were off, was one vinegar and the last one ran out at around 10pm. Apparently the man who “did the cellar” was out and so nothing could be done. The food was “Brake Bros.” I now know this hotel is part of a chain called John Barras and have been told I should have expected this.

Breakfast was a pleasant surprise although it was again difficult to avoid the omnipresent TV.

To summarise: the accommodation is fine; the bar and restaurant lack the sophistication of Wetherspoons. A good place to sleep but find a decent nearby pub.

“Nice Room shame about the service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 February 2010

The hotel room was actually much better than I anticipated. I had a 4 poster bed and that was nice and very comfy, nice TV. Not much by the way of toiletries and it was a small room, but clean enough. Because it was small when I went to the loo in the night I bruised myself badly on the edge of the dressing table - ouch! The service was very poor. The desk isn't manned and it took me ages to get checked in and out - although when they arrived the staff were very polite and well mannered. Did not get chance to check out the breakfast because I woke up after they had finished serving - very comfy bed!!! As far as hotels in Nuneaton go this is quite good being quite close to the centre of town but also not far from the A5. And the prices are extremely reasonable.
