“A great stopping-off point”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012 via mobile

We were in the North East as my fiancée had an interview so needed to stay somewhere the night before.

It's an awful long way from south Wales so I looked for somewhere just off the A1 so it would be quick and easy to find.

The Holiday Inn ticked those boxes and at £65 was good value.

A bit of a mix up on check in as we were allocated a twin room despite booking a double. There were no double rooms left but the nice lady at reception kindly offered us free drinks to make up for it.

That was the only real issue; beds (which we moved together) were extremely comfy, bathroom clean and a large TV (with freeview and HD) was great to watch.

This is an ideal base for those heading north on the A1, whether it's for Newcastle or elsewhere in the North East and Scotland.

Dear Reviewer

Many thanks for taking the time to review the hotel following your recent stay. Please accept my apologies for the room mix up however I was pleased to note our receptionist arranged a drink as an apology. Otherwise it was great to see that the hotel ticked all the boxes for you and we would be delighted to welcome you back if you are visiting the North East again in the future.

“Excellent location and great for the motorway”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

The hotel is located by the service station and just one minute from the motorway - great location and handy for all areas - even to get into the centre of Newcastle only a short distance away. I stayed for three nights and had a lovely room - double bed - menu choice of pillows, flat screen TV in the room and great fast internet - you did pay for it but the fastest internet in any hotel ever.

I ate both nights in the hotel restaurant and the menu choice was excellent - one night i had something from the specials list - which was excellent.

The bar area in the hotel was good and busy with a nice atmosphere and fine to sit in even though I was on my own got chatting to a few people.

Would recomend the hotel to anyone. Oh and big bonus you can collect Priority Club Points when you stay.

Room Tip: Plenty of spaces for parking (free) at the back of the hotel.

“Holiday Inn Washington is great value for money”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 January 2012

I spent one night at this hotel while on a business trip and while it was very much a standard Holiday Inn and you know what you are getting this one was great value for money. As with many of it's kind it is getting a little tired, carpets have seen better days, though perfectly adequate, the bathroom is probably ready to be decorated, but again nothing you can really criticise. It's location adjacent to the A1 makes it very useful when travelling to Scotland and the north east of England when coming from the South East.

At the price I paid this is one to watch for if you need to stay in this part of the world.

“Great New Year for Children”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

We booked this hotel for New Years Eve at a very reasonable price, including Buffet, Disco, accommodation and breakfast. The venue was listed as being for couples and families. It was very much for families as the children's entertainer (great for a while to keep the kids entertained) was still going at 10.30p.m. He had to be told by a number of people to put the disco on as we thought we would be playing :pass the parcel: at midnight. We had children in our party, and it still was annoying after a while. I felt sorry for the 'couples' who had booked. The evening buffet left a lot to be desired but the breakfast was excellent!!! There was nothing wrong with the hotel or staff, but the fact they had a wedding party booked in as well left the staff rather rushed and overworked.

Overnight stay whilst touring the North East.I found everything to be first class especially the rate.Nice clean comfy bedrooms. Food in hotels can be a bit hit and miss, this was a hit especially the breakfast. Just as important was the great norther hospitality shown to us by all the staff we encountered. Will return.
