Fantastic breakfast, clean rooms and friendly staff. I was in south shields for a job interview, an hour before my interview I realised my interview shirt was stained and the owner drove me to the nearest Next to replace it aswell as trying to remove the stain from the shirt, now thats service!!! I would have no problem recommending this place to anybody.

My stay at Athol house was lovely, i had an immaculately clean and very comfortable room which had a fridge, hotplate and sink as well as a vanity sink. The breakfast cooked by Duncan was superb.......as was his banter as he did it! Very friendly people who were on hand to give advice about the local area and places to go. I will be staying there again when i go back and would recommend Athol House to anyone wishing to stay in South Shields. It's location for the beach, Tyne, Metro and numerous other attractions is perfect. Thank you for making my stay such a lovely one!

We were made more than welcome, the owners were very friendly and and we felt very comfortable. The breakfast was fantastic, both the full English and my partner's vegan alternative, it seemed as though nothing was too much trouble.

Stayed here for a week while participating in a volunteer project. I appreciated the friendliness and helpfulness of the owners and found my room to be simple and comfortable, exactly what I was expecting. Though some of the rooms have bathrooms attached, mine did not - however the bathrooms shared by several rooms were in very good condition. Location wise, the guesthouse is right by the very prominent town hall - very easy to find - and a short walk from the big Asda market and the main streets.
