“Outstanding service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 December 2011

Stayed here over Christmas as we were having a birthday and then Christmas party and bearing in mind that the staff had to work over the holiday period, I could not praise them highly enough (especially John and George) because they went out of their way to help us in every way that we asked (and we asked a lot). Awkward location with no car, no real accommodation for children but as hotels go, stood out because of the staff

“Average Sort of Hotel - Bizarrely Aggressive Signage”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 December 2011

Ordinary bottom end/middle of road business hotel.

I had two OK evening meals, although one of my colleagues suffered from a severely undercooked burger..... Breakfast OK.

Unfortunately there were a lot of works Xmas parties being held in the hotel and one night there was a disco until 1pm - which shook much of the hotel. Not ideal if on business trip and have 7am start. I suspect this is a seasonal issue rather than a 365 day issue. But not great if it affects your stay.

Complimentary wifi an asset.

Despite other reviews on this site, I found the staff polite.

As others have reported, super showers - although other rubbishy bathtub insecurely installed.

Room decorated fine and clean - however, mattress on bed possibly 100 years old, worn out and far too soft.

However, the aggressive tone of some of the signage in the hotel was odd and not customer friendly. If signs can be rude, some of these were in tune. I'm thinking about the signs advising that smoking isn't permitted in guest rooms; the signs about the lobby cover charge minimum spend. Surely these could have a more polite/friendly tone.

All in all an OK hotel for the price, but with room for improvement.

As others have said, important to take great care when entering and leaving hotel as front part of exit on to the main road is shared with a filling station.

Room Tip: Away from function roms and reception.

“Shocking prices just for a soft drink in the lobby.”

I met a business colleague here in the rather dated lobby - we were planning to have a conversation over a soft drink. We were told that the "cover charge" per person would be £9.00! Wow - talk about pricing yourself out of the market. £9.00 for a glass of water? I don't think so. People working there were rather rude and unfriendly too. Avoid. There is a much friendlier and reasonably priced hotel up the hill.

“Christmas Parties at Reigate Manor Hotel”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 December 2011

30 of us attended for our Xmas party last night. Reception was frosty if not rude. Manager was dictatorial and shouldn't work in this environment. Staff were miserable with a distinct lack of smiles. The chicken liver pate was wet and tasted like fish. The turkey was so dry one could have set fire to it. One of our guests had a large, free piece of glass in her prawn starter. Frozen stuffing balls. Cheesecakes care of Sara Lee. Despite our contribution to this hotel's coffers my colleague almost got into a fight with an over zealous "head" waiter because he refused to pay at the table for an overpriced bottle of "Romanian" house wine instead of adding it to our not inconsiderable bar bill to be settled at the end of the evening. Felt more like a trip to our local Court than a firm Xmas party and couldn't wait to get on the coach home. I know it is a game but it would have been more honest if they simply issued envelopes for payment by post leaving out the awful visit which would have been less painful. Would not go back there again if you paid me.

“two night business trip - no complaints, almost none.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 November 2011

It was fine, plenty of parking, nice enough but dated bar, fine menu and speedy service. The shower was good, wi-fi worked and there was tea and coffee and freeview TV. My room was a fair size, but I did have two singles and I am a taller than average man. The mattress was soft, too soft for me, but of course others might like it that way. I didn't pay the bill so can't say whether it was good value or not. It was though fine...
