“Dog's Kennel would be better !!!!!!”

I was booked in here on business and had a bad feeling as soon as I drove up to the building! The outside was run down to say the least. I popped into the reception which looked ok. However once I got to my room I could not believe what I saw. I would like to swear but that would not even come close to how I felt. The room stank of damp, the curtains were disgusting and the bathroom did not look safe at all. There was a huge crack in the ceiling and the tv did not work correctly. I checked the bedding and the sheets looked ok but on top of the bed was a blanket / cover that was absolutely filthy. I sat in the room and checked my phone for reviews which finally made my mind up !!! I phoned a local hotel from on-line to find a room and lucky got the last room. I asked if there hotel was anything like the Liongate and the receptionist said 'Oh dear you are at the Liongate, you will think our hotel is like heaven compared to there'. Obviously it has a great reputation in the local community !!!! I would never stay here in my life, and would be very worried if families stayed here with small children. Upon handing my key back to reception as I left the guy behind the desk said, 'you will be charged for the room!!!!!!' I kindly told him where to go.THIS PLACE SHOULD BE SHUT DOWN, ABSOLUTE DISGRACE.

Room Tip: Go to a nice hotel, or sleep under a bush. Will be cleaner !!!!!

“We would never stay here again!”

despite its good location and fairly cheap prices the hotel is simply not suitable for staying with a family. Perhaps we were unfortunate with the room but the cleaning was very poor the bathroom was bad and the shower almost impossile to adjust. Same can be said for the heating as it was very cold and nothing could be done about it.

The reception was fine as was the free internet but thats about it.

Look for another location.

“Stay away”

What a terrible experience I was scared to allow my children to use the bathroom. In the end I decided that the amount of dirty may well help to build there emune systems. I was working locally and working long hours and I expected a good working shower how wrong was I a dribble of water slid down the shower head.

“Red Letter treat ? Not quite..”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 October 2011

We had a 'red letter experience' voucher as a gift and Liongate was advertised as 'a charming experience for two'., great idea and we could 'do' Hampton Court at the same time !

Charming may not be the first thing that comes to mind when you arrive at this hotel, how the building is standing upright is beyond me! Front door is very dirty but suprisingly not so bad inside. Our room (3) was an upgraded room and it was massive with a 4 poster bed and I have to say clean and pleasant, BUT my God the two windows!!!!! when curtains were drawn back they were covered with creased mis- matched gauze things, beyond them single glazed sliding panels which revealed....drum roll please...sash window so bad the lower parts were jambed open at a 20degree angle and leaning out just ready to take the crumbling window sills with them, the room overlooked the busy main road and we couldnt close the windows the traffic noise was horrendous...Our large bathroom was basic, the lavatory could have done with some bleach and the bath panel grim, we glimpsed the window sill, blacky and grimy beneath the tied down blind and the way the wind whistled through and the traffic noise makes me think that was broken too.
The amazing bay windows around the function(!) room and breakfast room which once must have been beautiful. are falling over and outwards just everything crumbling away
.
Our breakfasts were good but that is the only food you will get here, it advertises a restaurant and bar but,we were not aware we couldnt get even get a bar snack let alone a meal, we never saw anyone at the counter which might have been a bar as there were a few bottles around, come to think of it not sure where the staff were at night probably not there.
After a tiring day we had planned to stay in but had to go out to source food and as it was so late couldnt get a table and ended up with a bag of crisps and a drink in the pub opposite. The following night we ate at the Riverside (Mitre Hotel) on the bridge, what a treat !!!
Also no info at Liongate regarding restaurants or takeaways... your on your own mate!

To be really honest we found the staff nice very friendly, warm and pleasant which must not be easy in the circumstances.,we didnt find them rude at all (as another review mentioned)

Liongate is not a hotel but it could be with a lottery win. Its a shame that a listed building is allowed to get in this state of disrepair, its so much more than cosmetic. Surely the local authority is aware of the state of it.

Despite this, do you know what? we had a great time at Hampton Court and Bushy Park,

“I should've listened!”

Despite the reviews I booked this hotel because of its close location to Hampton Court, and I thought "Oh come on! Can it really be that bad?" Well, when it comes to the rooms in the mews building, the answer to that is a resounding "YES!" When we opened the door (to room 17), we were struck dumb. I generally try to see the funny side of things but there was nothing amusing about it. It looked more like a room in a squat than an hotel. Fortunately (thanks to a friend who wouldn't take "there are no other rooms available" for an answer) we were moved to a room in the main hotel building (room 28), which I think was just about acceptable for the cost/location. By comparison to the mews room, it was verging on the luxurious :-)
The facades of both buildings are crumbling in quite a few places and the window frames can't last much longer; they've used toilet rolls to keep the windows open where the latches are broken.
Hampton Court Palace and gardens were fabulous though!
