“Quirky, clean, great staff and good food.”

A quirky little hotel. From other reviews, one can tell it may not primarily be a hotel that usually caters for business travellers, but what do you look for in a hotel? Cleanliness, friendly and helpful staff, comfy rooms?. All of which can be found here. Food was a good standard - cooked to order. The car park is a test of your parking ability so be prepared to take a little while getting in and out of the spaces! If you're looking for a main stream hotel, this isn't the choice for you, but something a little unusual, but great, then go for it.

Many thanks for your review Tim, and of course it's great to see your excellent feedback about us.

I'm sorry you found the car park a little challenging to use. Unfortunately the poor positioning of earlier vehicles can sometimes make things more difficult for our later arrivals.

But yes, we do focus very hard on our cleanliness, customer service, excellent rooms, and freshly cooked breakfasts, so I'm glad you all found those to your satisfaction.

In relation to your comment about the types of guests who usually stay with us: guests who stay with us whilst in the area on business (particularly during week nights) are actually the main occupancy of our hotel, and a significant number of those are ongoing repeat guests who stay with us whenever they're in the area!

All of our rooms are uniquely designed, so there's no generic pallet and layout for every room (as you often find in the more 'mainstream' hotels). This, combined with the way we try to recognise every guest as an individual, and a real person (not just another room booking), helps many of our guests feel at home.

We look forward to welcoming you back again.

“Lovely boutique hotel ideal for a getaway”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

My wife and I spent two nights in the Parisian Dreams mini-suite in early February 2012. I'll start with the only two negative experiences that we had. The car park has it's spaces marked by long wooden logs rather than painted lines (it is a gravel car park). We found this a little tricky to park in. And second, I am sure the curtain separating the bathroom from the main room is intended to add a touch of fantasy to the room but something more substantial might be more appropriate. Possibly a sliding door or thick sliding curtain in addition to the light curtain?

These very small 'negatives' in no way impacted on our stay and we would definitely visit again.

Otherwise, everything about our room stay was positive. This is a boutique hotel, and unlike one reviewer states it does not look like a bog standard B&B. It is also clear if you read the website that there isn't a 24/7 reception service. What you get are themed rooms and suites, which make the perfect romantic getaway. The bar/restaurant area is also tastefully erotically decorated in such a way that it could never be described as smutty. There is a love swing under the bed, if you don't want to use it...then leave it there!

The Parisian Dreams room was lovely, the bed is huge as is the bath. We had a most relaxing weekend. There's a nice TV angled to be viewed from the bed, with a DVD player as well as a radio and iPod dock. There were candles in the bathroom, a Tassimo coffee/tea machine. Everything seemed to have been thought of.

The staff are all very pleasant and helpful, on check-in we were given a key to let ourselves into the building after hours. Nothing seems to be too much trouble for the staff. We had one dinner and two breakfasts at the hotel, and all meals were of good quality, made to order with great ingredients. If you want something slightly different to a menu item, they'll cook it for you. There is also a huge range of coffee and tea in the bar area to which you can help yourself at any time.

To sum up, this is the perfect getaway for a romantic/fun night or two. It is within easy walking distance of Farnham Maltings and the high street, but 'out of the way' enough to be quite quiet. The noise from the road almost completely stopped from 10pm until 8am and in any case was hardly disturbing unless we opened a window.

Many thanks for taking the time to write such a detailed review on here, and for uploading your own photos of the hotel too. That's lovely to see.

I'm sorry you found the parking a little tricky during your stay. Unfortunately the poor position of some earlier arrivals can sometimes cause some challenges to other guests.

The curtain divider in your particular room (the Parisian Dreams) is something we are looking to convert to twin bi-fold doors in the future. The challenge has been having enough days clear for what is one of our most popular rooms.

I also very much appreciate your own responses to some of the other feedback posted here about Hotel de Vie.

We look forward to welcoming you back again in the future.

“A quirky, unusual hotel with delightful staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 January 2012

I stayed at the Hotel de Vie during the summer of 2011 for 2 nights. My bedroom, called Gothic Nights (!), was clean and well appointed, and the bed was very comfortable. Some of the bedroom furniture did look a little tired though. The bath was big enough for two. I was served an excellent breakfast on both mornings by Jason and his staff, all of whom were charming and helpful. The only downside was the tea-making machine in the reception/dining area which really did make an unpleasant brew! But perhaps I'm fussy! The hotel is within walking distance of the centre of Farnham, which is a delightful town and well worth a visit, especially on the first Saturday of the month when The Maltings Market takes place. I would recommend the Hotel de Vie to anyone with a sense of humour and a broad mind!

Room Tip: Have a look at the Hotel de Vie's website and select your room according to your taste!

Hi Sonia,
Many thanks for your review, and it's great of you to post your thoughts even this far on. Especially great that you're happy to recommend us too.
In response to some of your constructive feedback points: You'll be pleased to know that since the time of your stay:
- We have been updating the 'Gothic room' with a newly plastered internal wall, fresh paint work on various walls, and various aspects of updated furniture (ie lamps, toilet seat, etc.).
- Our 'Tassimo Professional' machine downstairs is now gone. Replaced with a top end Nespresso machine (serving more than 16 types of quality coffees, plus Lattes & Cappuccinos), and a separate quick cup kettle with more than 12 varieties of organic teas available (and a few other hot drinks available in the cupboard beneath too). This does make a much better brew.
There are also now kettles and/or hot drinks machines in everyone's rooms, with the fair-trade tea, coffee and hot chocolates available without the walk downstairs required.
- As for the 'broad mind' in relation to some of our artwork on display in our lounge area. We have been toning this down recently : broad minded people with a sense of humour are generally very welcome anyway! :)
We look forward to welcoming you back again in the future.
