“Could be great but needs a refurb”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

Great location just a couple of minutes walk from the shops and station, coupled with good staff and decent food, let down only by the 'tired' rooms. The rooms are in need of a refurbishment, they are showing their age and the sound-proofing and double glazing is not up to today's standards. The cleanliness and usability of the rooms is great, it's just not quite up to par with what I expect these days.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the back away from the road if you're a light sleeper. Much less noise.

“ok hotel but the heating is noisy and dodgy”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

This hotel is very near East Croydon Station. It has a mediocre gym and pool .The breakfast is good. The worst part of this hotel is the heating .The rooms can be really cold and the heating blasts out cold air for the first 20 minutes and then gets really hot.The system is really noisy and could be doing with being upgraded.Several people were complaining about being cold. The rooms are fine apart from that .It does not seem like a four star hotel.Wine in the bar is really expensive.

“Good hotel, good location, tired decor/rooms”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

I stayed at the Croydon Park in Jan 2012 on business.

The hotel is easily accessible from East Croydon station - about 5 minutes walk - and it ideally situated for the town centre, which has several good pubs and restaurants.

The reception of the hotel is a bit sparse, but clean and well kept. Checkin was fairly fast - only two staff on at busy times, and probably needs more. Reception staff were friendly and efficient.

Corridors look and feel dated; teak effect on doors make it feel like you've gone back in time to the 1980's! Rooms are large, clean and comfortable - everything works - although it has to be said the air conditioning fans are noisy. I have had to ask to have a different room due to one air condition unit failing - it sounded like a tank was outside the room! The windows do let a lot of cool air from outside even when shut, so it is a constant battle to get a decent nights sleep AND a good temperature. TVs are digital and fairly small for a room of this size.

Wireless internet was included in the price, and was OK - some drop out of network, esp.late at night.

There is a bar/restaurant - service and food are both good, although somewhat expensive. Service is good. Room service is fast and efficient, food is good but expensive.

The leisure facilities are in the hotel, and include a gym, sauna and pool. These are well kept, but do tend to get overcrowded, especially between 6pm and 7pm.

Breakfast the following morning was included in the price, and was OK - a fair selection of hot and cold items, and perhaps not as wide a choice as other hotels in the area.

On the whole I can recommend this hotel!

PROS
Good location for station and town
Good sized rooms
Good leisure facilities
Good food
Good service
Free wi-fi with my deal

CONS
Dated corridors
Noisy air conditioning
Cold air problem with windows
High food prices

Room Tip: Ask for rooms away from road for a quieter sleep. Insist on non-smoking room in a non-smoking corrid...

“An anti-climax”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

Whilst its location makes it a perfect place to say, it is sad to say, but in most other ways The Croyon Park Hotel is a disappointment. The room was a good size, but was in dire need of some refurbishment as it was run down and screamed for an up-date in decor and ammenities. Several incidents proved that not only was the service simply atrocious, but it borderlined on rude and disrespectful. It is safe to say that a hotel is only good as the service it offers, and the service was despicable. I question as to whether this hotel truly warrants being called a 4 star hotel.

“Feels retro without intending to”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2012

This is a strange hotel with an unintended retro feel. Apparently first built in 1982 and if there is such a thing, it maintains its 80s charm. Although refurbished in 2002 and 2008, The decor, style, food and service are all throw backs to the 80s and 90s. The over the top use of shiny brass and tasteless chandeliers all give this hotel a dated feel. The hotel's web site decribes this as a "modern" hotel and whilst its not a Victorian or Edwardian building, modern it is not. To be fair though, it is dated rather than shabby and everything is in good order and not falling to pieces.

Perhaps where things go wrong the most is in the restaurant where the food is straight out of your 1980s cookbook. The cold buffet in particular is reminiscent of buffets of 20 years ago. For example, the "lobster" version of crab sticks, boiled eggs with an unidentified mousse piped on and cold meats. The buffet is muddled with desserts mixed in with soup and hot main courses and when it gets busy with a conference crowd, the queues are long and tedious. The quality of the food is not what it should be. It is was the same two days in a row and lacked flavour and if you have to wait its not worth it. The breakfast is much better and whilst still a buffet, the quality is the appropriate standard.

The bar is a little more charming although expensive. However on the day of my visit was hopelessly understaffed. I think they were also managing resaturant drinks. After 1/2 an hour of waiting, I gave up on my beer. Other guests were more vocal and angrily demanding the service improve; I actually felt sorry for the staff.

On the basics it is clean. I did not experience the smoke smell some report and the room was well cleaned and large. On site parking was good. I didn't try the leisure facilities.

This is one of those hotels that gets its 4 stars because on paper it has the facilities. It does not however, feel luxurious. It is well kept, clean, and functional and as such it is ideal for conferences and functions. This seems to be it's bread and butter: conferences, special events, wedding fairs etc. If you need a place to stay in Croydon, for the price its ok.
