I have been staying in Croydon with work for a while now and having previously stayed in the horrible Selsdon Park Hotel I was glad when my company offered to let me stay in the Hilton, it had to be better than Selsdon.
The staff here are very nice and friendly and do try to be helpful, something that none of the staff at Selsdon ever managed.
The rooms are average, my first week there I was put in a room that the air conditioning didnt work and the windows are sealed for safety reasons. They had put a fan in the room, but that only served to be a nuisance during the night. The next week I made sure I was put into a room where the air con worked. The beds are comfortable but it is little things that serve to annoy, there are no biscuits offered, there is a bottle of water with a sign around it saying it is £3.95 if you open it! I have just stayed in a B&B last week that offered biscuits, water and even crisps! These so called chains of hotels would do well to take some tips from the great B&B's that are emerging in the UK.
The menu in the dinning room never seems to change and when you are staying somewhere on a regular basis this can be very frustrating. In addition they menu and what you get served sometimes seem a little different, supreme of chicken turned out to be a chicken breast on stir fry veg, and chocolate foundant was a microwaved chocolate sponge! Sadly when you are a single female traveller you have to put up with what hotels have to offer, but it would be nice to see the menu changing every day.
Breakfast is a buffet and offers a wide selection. There is a nice lounge area with a Costa coffee.
Location wise, its great for me as I work in Purley, but I cant image why anyone would want to stay in this area unless they were there for business, Croydon is not a pretty place.
