We stayed here for 2 nights at the end of October, a Monday and Tuesday night.
We had walked the Devils Punchbowl during the day and arrived tired and hungry!
The check in was fast, polite and efficient.
Our room was lovely and very clean. Hubby was worried as it looked like we just had 1 square roo, but with a little female ingenuity.....abracabra and there behind the middle wardrobe door was the bathroom.
The bed was comfy, a wrought iron four post bed. The room was warm.
The bathroom looked fabulous, although the shower was a little inpractical for my husband liking. I wasnt bothered, as I enjoyed floating in the deep rolled top bath.
We ate the first night in the main posh restaurant. To say the service was slow would be an understatement. It took about 2 hours for our meal start to finish. We had a very swish pork dish, beautifully presented and very delish, but the big draw back was that it could have fitted on a saucer. A miniscule slither of roast pork another morsel of pig cheek and a teen weany square of belly pork. We were ravenous! Thankfully the cheese board was excellent, but we had waited so long it was hugely disappointing. Thankfully I had a Toblerone in my bag upstairs. The 2nd night we ate in the bar. The food was superb and of normal quantity and served a lot quicker.
On both mornings the breakfast was superb and generous.
Opposite the hotel is a Sculpture park. Worth every single penny and an absolute must if you have the time. We had anticipated to spend half an hour in there, but, it took us a good 2 hours to fully enjoy it.
The hotel is well placed for what we wanted to do, a spot of hiking in the Devils Punchbowl and a visit to the Arboretum a few miles away.
My request to the hotel would be to have a bit of info on the local area, perhaps some of those pamphlets you can get of local places of interest. There was 1 for Bucklars Hard, but thats many miles away and in Hampshire!
We would happily stay at this hotel again.
Ps. It is on the corner of a very busy junction. If you are a light sleeper you may wish to request a room away from the traffic. However there is virtually no traffic through the night, it only started at about 7am, strange as you wonder where all the traffic is going, as you feel like you are in the middle on nowhere!
