“Lovely stay, Great value for money! Customer service A++++”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

Upon arrival to the Cedar Tree Hotel your immediatly greeted by the enormous beautiful tree located outside! Nearly as big as the hotel...

Upon arrival, we were greeted by a lovely lady, who was cheery, helpful and efficient! (Which is appreciated after a 6 hour journey down)

We got checked into our double room, and were relativly surprised after reading a few recent reviews... The room was very spacious, bed was big and comfy and crisp fresh linen (and extra pillows) Big plasma screen on the wall, my husband was in his element! Also fast free wifi! And the silly people that write 'floor boards are squeaky' ITS A OLD BUILDING!!! THERE BOUND TO BE!!!!

The bathroom was bath/ power shower fitted, the shower was amazing! And the bath gallons of hot water! Fresh towels and shampoo/ conditioner/ shower jel dispensers were there which was lucky as i forgot to pack mine!

After our long journey we decided to eat in the restaurant and not venture in the bitter cold, we were impressed with the quantity and quality of food. I had a home made steak pie, which was the best ever and you get many options of what it comes with just to make it the perfect meal. My husband had a mixed grill, couldn't believe how big it was! All cooked just how we liked it.... Whilst were on the food, breakfast was lovely, we were greedy and went for the full english, goodness me was it full! 2 rashers of bacon, 2 sausages, tom's, fried bread, eggs (how you want them, oatcakes, mushrooms, beans etc its blooming huge and all cooked to perfection! I give my compliments to the chef! Five starrrrrrr service...

Overall i had a brilliant stay and at £62.90 B&B who can complain! Its in a brill location for commuting, right amongst the beauty of cannock chase and few miles away from historical lichfield....Will definately be back and i highly recommend..

Thankyou Cedar tree for making my stay lovely! :)

“Tired and understaffed”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2012

Stayed here for one night as it was handy for work and had proved to be a friendly and comfortable choice on previous stays. Upon arrival at just before 10pm, I had to search for somebody to check -in, as there seemed to be just one person doing reception and bar but was found in the kitchens.
The hotel does not seem to have been refurbished since the early 1980's so carpets and furniture look worn and dated (e.g. defunct radio built into the dresser and stained carpets). I could not work out how to turn the heating down and so had to have the window open and listen to the traffic noise.

The en-suite bathroom was clean as was the bed which was also very comfortable. It was just a shame about the noise from the road and people coming into their rooms very late at night. I had to be out before breakfast (i.e. before 7am) so cannot comment on that. Check out was delayed as my bill could not be found (nor could any staff initially either).

“very helpful staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 December 2011

The reception staff was very helpful and was checked in very quickly
The bedroom was an adequate size and clean.
The bed was hard - but this suited us - the bedlinen was clean
The bathroom was ok with a shower, toilet and sink
There was only one bath towel in the room but there was soap and shampoo for you to use
There was tea and coffee in the room.
The only downside to the hotel was the creaky floor boards which if you were a light sleeper may give you some broken sleep.
This wasnt the ritz but we only paid £49 / night so we got what we paid for.
We would stay again in the future.

“Staff bent over backwards for us.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2011

First bad points, the exterior is dated and wants painting also the car park has poor underfoot conditions plus poor lighting.
Booking in was handled quickly and efficiently by very pleasant staff. We stayed in room 3 it was compact but had everything you would kneed for a short stay. The bed was comfortable and we both sleped very well. Our room was faceing the main road but the noise was kept to a minimum by secondary glazeing.
The bathroom was very clean as was the towels, we could have done with a bib bath towel though. The shower was excellent easy controlled temperature nice water presure and with the usual shampoo and shower gel dispencers.
As we had a dog with us we could not eat in the main dineing area but the staff set up a table in the corner of the bar for our evening meal which was cooked properly and served by the excellent staff. The drinks in the bar were reasnobly priced, certainly cheaper than my local so was very happy with that. The service was quick and done with smiles on the staffs faces.
When we came down for a full English breakfast the staff had again excelled by setting up a table for us in the bar , it was very pleasant. As for the breakfast I can't fault it two rashers of bacon, two sausages, beans, tomatoes, mushrooms, egg (done just as I asked) blackpuding and marmalede and toast. Tea and coffee that was fresh not stewed, it was a lovely cup of tea.
This is a great place for you to stay for a couple of nights and for dog owners they go that extra mile to try and help.

“Not as good as last time”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 July 2011

We stayed in this hotel around this time last year, but unfortualtey this time wasnt the same experiance. We found that there was one young lady doing all the work and you couldnt fault her at all she must of been tired by the end of the weekend. But with that comes its own issues, the bar wasnt open when we it should of been and seeing the same face all weekend just seemed strange there wasnt any banter between staff and customer as there was only one memeber of staff!!. There is a new hotel i the area and the prices are the same the reason we didnt opt for that one as it is a little out the way but based on this experiance it may be worth the cab fare to where we want to go.
