“Noisy but cheap”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 September 2010

Yes it is noisy but what do you expect when it's very close to a busy dual carriageway and to give Travelodge their due they do say on their website that it may be noisy. Recently refurbished - ignore the photograph on the website it's only single storey. Very handy for the National Memorial Arboretum at Alrewas and if you can get it for £9 it's very good value for money. BE AWARE THAT IF COMING SOUTH ON THE A38 AND USING THE POSTCODE ON A SATNAV YOU NEED TO IGNORE THE TURN OFF IT SUGGESTS AND TAKE THE NEXT ONE (YOU WILL SEE THE TRAVELODGE ON THE OPPOSITE CARRIAGEWAY) BEFORE COMING BACK UP THE NORTHBOUND CARRIAGEWAY.

“OMG traffic noise is a understatement”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 June 2010

Stayed here last night and will NEVER stay a another travel lodge. Room was facing A38 which was about 50 yards from the room, the traffic noise was constant. Room has just been painted so the choice was suffocate with the smell or open the window and go deaf. The bathroom had been freshly decorated but not cleaned and was covered in fag ash and an unidentifiable gunk. We left at 4:30am because we couldn't bear it any longer if any one reads this and is using sat nav the post code given on the booking info will put you approx 10/15 miles away on the south bound carriage way and the only place to eat is an run down little chef STAY WELL CLEAR

“Really in need of refurbishment”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 February 2010

We've stayed here a couple of times as it's convenient for our annual meet up with old work colleagues in the nearby village of Barton. Receptionist was friendly and efficient. Extra pillows were provided on request (although it would be better if they were already in the room as other rival "budget hotels" seem to do. It appears from other reviews that we've been lucky in always getting a room at the rear as there was no traffic noise at all.

I believe this was one of, if not the, very first Travelodge hotels in the country and it's beginning to seriously show it's age and is crying out for a full makeover!

“Try Harder”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 April 2009

Traffic noise was bad and continuous throughout our one night there(we were told hotel full, so could not have changed to a room at rear). This situation was not helped by the fact that one window was open and could not be closed as there was no handle with which to make it secure. This had been completely broken off.
Shower was broken and unusable.
Light fittings in both rooms we had booked were faulty. The TWO bulbs fitted into each light fitting continually flickered leading us to conclude it was the fitting and not the bulbs at fault.

“Adequate”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 June 2008

Large room, shared by 3 people. Clean, but in desperate need of refurbishment. Reception staff brisk but not particularly efficient - had to prise themselves off a personal telephone call to speak with us. We had a room fronting the A38, and wished we hadn't - traffic noise all lnight.

  • Liked — Proximity to where we needed to be
  • Disliked — The noise from traffic
