OK so this is an old Travelodge of that there is no doubt. So my advice is if your paying top wack to stay then it is not worth the money. However if you can get a sale deal for £15 - £25 then this is worth it, especially if you are not staying in the room all day.
The bad - On the dual carriageway so possibility of road noise but to be honest we never noticed. Tired decor. Tired Little Chef next door.
The good - Take a very short walk on the footpath from the Travelodge heading north and then veer left towards the canal which runs along the back of the Travelodge - you are then in a different world. You can walk a short distance along the canal towpath which runs alongside the old A38 which has no traffic on it. You will soon come to a good old fashioned pub, nothing posh but serves good beer and basic good value food. Pub has a few tables/chairs set next to the canal. So to say there is nowhere to eat and drink nearby is incorrect. From the pub and looking over the canal you can see a newly built area with boat marina, designer shops, restaurants and another pub. You cross over the canal bridge and can walk along the road for 15 - 20 minutes and you will come to the complex itself. Alternatively head north out of the Travelodge and take the next turning off and within 5 mins you will be there. We booked a table in the pub/restaurant and had a very good meal/wine.
Why did we choose this Travelodge - because we wanted to spend a day at the National Aboretum and it was perfect, not to far to drive.
Overall the Travelodge was adequate for our needs and was worth the money we paid.
