“Great hotel, amazing pool, avoid the room service pizza like the plague!!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012 via mobile

We took a one night trip to the alton towers hotel as a birthday treat for our 3 year old son.
Check in was simple, room spacious and appeared clean (I'm not one for checking under beds and in corners of window ledges etc.!)
Water park closed at 4pm so would advise getting there early as we only got 2 hours on the first day, however, our tickets allowed us to use the water park after check out the following day which was great!
Our stay was a late deal so didn't include an evening meal, but we were told we could reserve a table on arrival. Unfortunately the earliest available was 7.15pm which was a little late for a 3 year old to eat, and also meant that he would miss the evening entertainment that started at 7pm! Luckily we had taken sandwiches, crisps and drinks as there was no room service until after 10.30pm either!!
The evening entertainment was short and mediocre but the kids appeared to love it which i guess is all the matters!
Drinks were also overpriced but that's to be expected in hotels.

All in all we had a great time, good value for money and friendly staff. We absolutely loved the water park and even got to swim outside when there was snow on the ground which was abit surreal.

The only major critisism would be the room service pizza menu!!!!!
I can not warn people strongly enough..... Frozen pizza base, thick helpings of tomato purée, semi cooked cheese, pepperoni that's supposed to be ham, and all at a staggering price of £8.95 each!!!!! Eaten by myself and my partner who were both promptly sick!!!!!!
DISGUISTING!!!!!!......

“Average is the only word!! A bit dissapointed”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

I was really disappointed with the hotel,10 years ago it would have been fab but everything is now dated. The rooms need a little redecoration,we had to be moved twice as our bathroom roof had mold on it. Food was also overpriced. We had an amazing time in the park which made up for it!!

“Average Hotel - Rooms could do with a referb”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

Having recently returned back from a 2 night stay at this hotel, the bedrooms could do with a re-fit mould around the windows, dust on the sides, bathrooms need a re-fit as there is cracks in the plastic sinks. We had our first meal in the secret garden restaurant very expensive for what they had on offer, they were sitting everyone under a glass roof with no heating so was very cold, breakfast was the same next day we eat at the water park the next day which was very nice and reasonable for what they had on offer, breakfast the following day was the same very cold also if you looked up the skylights where full of cob webs and needs cleaning. Pirate Bill is very good he keeps the littles ones entertained in the early evening (7.30pm - 8pm). I would certainly recommend the water park as there is something to do for all ages.

“Great fun for kids!”

Managed to get a last minute deal for the roary/fifi weekend. Hotel was relatively clean, staff very friendly and helpful. Splash landings was the best part of the whole experiance. Childrens activites were so so and could be worked on. Food and drink overpriced for basic products. Ate at the secret garden portions on the small side and average food. The buffet was ok and staff did well but food was running out so you had to wait around for cooked breakfast. All in all ok if you can get a good deal otherwise it is overpriced. Dont expect to get much sleep with doors banging and kids running around screaming etc (guess this is to be expected to a degree for a family hotel). Rooms basic, but lovely lobby areas-kids will enjoy.

“Well-kept hotel, friendly staff and fantastic for families.”

My son (06) and I stayed overnight 29th Jan 2012. Made very welcome from the off and staff were well presented, courteous and friendly. Luggage was taken to room whilst we went straight into the water park (reviewed seperately).
The hotel is well laid out across four floors and our room (333) was a good size, clean and was everything I hope for in a room. My son thought it was superb. Free wifi a bonus.
I won't spoil the suprise, but the lifts are ace.
The bar was a tad on the expensive side, but in-keeping with most hotels. On the plus side, Guinness was no more expensive than my local.
We ate in the evening in the Secret Garden. Not a huge selection but was very nice, service was friendly and efficient and food was of a high standard. Moderately priced.
Pirate Bill's show excellent!
Breakfast was in Secret Garden. Again, friendly and efficient staff and excellent choice. Cooked breakfast tasted a little bland if I'm honest but then I still ate it all.
My only tiny criticism with the stay was somebody in a room close by must have been smoking as when we came upstairs after dinner it was a bit pongy in the corridor. As criticisms go though, it's quite a minor one.
Overall, a lovely hotel, great staff and kids especially will love it.
