“Enjoyable stay”

This establishment is run with military precision by the owner. When you book you receive an information pack and on arrival personally greeted and shown to your room. We stayed in the outbuilding which is the stable I think and the room was spotless....the building and grounds overall are very pleasant and tranquil. The breakfast was excellent with plenty on offer. May I just make an important point in that this establishment superbly caters for dietary needs; I was treated to gluten free sausages, black pudding and fried bread…fantastic!
Close to Alton Towers which was why we stayed here……the village itself is quaint and rural but we were overall a little disappointed with the local village pubs. A couple were closed down during our visit and the remainder I would not class as nice country pubs. We had a meal in one and I sent the food back receiving a refund as it was frankly horrible!
Don’t let this detract from the fact that if you are visiting Alton Towers and want to stay overnight this is a first class B&B!

We certainly aim to please and love it when we get it right. Our 2 acre plot does indeed take a lot of maintainance so it's nice to know that you enjoyed the setting. We're pleased to offer a wide choice of breakfast and do our very best to cater for everyone. It appears that the village pubs were a dissapointment and we are sorry about that. There are four pubs in Alton that usually serve meals each evening and on the whole we get pretty good reports from our visitors. During the winter we have the time to 'do the rounds' of the pubs ourselves and have enjoyed each so we hope your experience was not the norm! Hope you come back soon to enjoy another stay with us.

“Would certainly stay there again”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 November 2011

My partner and I stayed there on 3rd/4th October after visiting Alton Towers, Buxton and Pooles Cavern. I cannot recommend The Malthouse highly enough. We were treated not as paying guests but as friends staying for a couple of nights - the warmth of hospitality was lovely. We stayed in The Stables (Polo was an wonderful companion) and this block has been converted to a very high standard. Our room was spacious and well laid out whilst the wetroom en suite was gorgeous and bigger than our bathroom! HUGE breakfasts (although you can choose a smaller option) and beautifully cooked. The fried bread alone was to die for. :)
Beautiful little breakfast room with many original features - check out the Georgian shutters which have been beautifully restored.
Full marks to The Team at The Malthouse. I'd go again just to stay there and enjoy their wonderful hospitality all over again. Will definitely be back.

Polo is indeed a very well behaved pony! Some of our rooms have teddies and some have toy dogs so perhaps you'll meet another member of the team on your next visit. Take care for now.

“GREAT!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 November 2011

Stayed at the Malthouse 4th to 6th Nov for Alton Towers fireworks weekend. After a long journey, was welcomed in by kind staff and shown around. Stayed in The Stables, i was very excited to meet Polo, the pony :) Room was excellent, breakfast was filling, just what you need before a day out in the theme park! Staff were great and provided me and my boyfriend advice regarding getting home from the park late at night and were very lucky to get on a staff bus!

Overall, great and hopefully be back again!

Thank you!

Emily

Emily and her partner were charming and we're glad we gave a good impression of ourselves too! Late night travelling in the countryside can be difficult and we like to ensure that our guests get "home" safely. We hope to see this lovely couple again.

“Return visit didn't disappoint again :)”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 November 2011

Seems this is becoming our annual trip now, Alton Towers for Scarefest :) We visited The Malthouse last year and loved it, so much so we made sure we booked early.

We arrived and again were warmly welcomed and settled into our room as before.

Breakfast was as good as remembered from year before, with options available if wanted something different or items removed if didnt like etc. Filled us up for our day at the Park, well til lunchtime any road.

When we checked out we decided we were going to visit Chatsworth house again, just like last year. The staff recommended we try and stop off in Bakewell for the market. We didnt get chance to, but love the fact the staff offering advice about the local area to enrich our stay.

We'll be back.. again ..

There's nothing we like more than welcoming people back to The Malthouse, it was lovely to see you again. We're always delighted to stop and chat about the beautiful area we're lucky enough to live in as we want visitors to make the most of their stay. Bakewell next time perhaps - the market is on most Mondays and well worth a look. See you next time!

“The Malthouse B&B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2011

We stayed at The Malthouse B&B in Alton on 28/29 October with our two young daughters for a 2day break at the Alton Towers theme and waterpark. On arrival we were warmly greeted and the girls had a real fuss made which they loved. Our room was the safari theme room and had a few toy animals on the beds that the girls loved! The room and ensuite were very clean as hoped (based on the reviews I had read previously before booking) and we were very happy. The breakfast was one of the best we have had - a full English that wasn't dripping in fat and didn't make you feel sick a while later! On our first night we went to the Bulls Head which was ok. I was expecting a little warmer welcome but I suppose when you have a double buggy to collapse and get in/store behind our chairs and then ask for a high chair its a big ask! The service was ok but we didn't get a menu and probably would still be there if we hadn't got up and asked for one. The food was nice but overall I wasn't as impressed as other reviews have said. Based on this experience we decided to have dinner in the theme park on our second night. Staying at the Resort hotels is probably best if the cost doesn't spiral into silly money (over half term one room was £265 per night)as you can have a meal and evening entertainment under one roof. However, the breakfast is much better at The Malthouse and with two small children is better to be served at your table rather than queue up and have the kids whinge while you're gone! On our next visit we will cetainly consider booking the Malthouse again. Thank you for a lovely stay.

Glad we didn't dissapoint - we love families and remember you as being delightful people so we shall certainly hope to see you again. Sorry that your visit to The Bulls Head was not all you'd hoped for, we often have really good reports from our guests - perhaps they had difficulties on that evening. Our response to your kind comments are a little delayed as we've been away on holiday ourselves!
