“A delightful stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

We arrived after a long journey for a nearby family wedding, and were a bit nervous about a first meeting with the new in-laws. We needed to relax, and the White House did us proud.

A friendly welcome, a lovely room, and a warm atmosphere put us (and our new relatives) at ease straight away. The facilities were excellent, and breakfast was a reminder that 'full English' can be a wonderful meal.

Looking forward to visiting again in Summer.

“Homely, warm and welcoming”

Stayed at the White House last weekend, it's a family run business and they were very welcoming, which as a single traveller made me feel very at ease and safe. The rooms were warm, homely, well equipped and most importantly clean! I will definitely return next time I'm down that way.

“Perfect location, quality and comfort, superb breakfasts”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 September 2011

We love Georgian architecture and were attracted by the beautiful facade of “The White House”.

Car parking is available on the frontage of the hotel and this facility was important to us.

To be completely honest if we had not watched the television programme “Three in a Bed”, we would not have considered paying about £49 per person per night for bed and breakfast accommodation.

Our cost awareness is based on our holidays abroad. UK experiences have been of Travel Lodges or Premier Inns with just the odd hotel visit.

Friendly welcome and lovely atmosphere as we approached our room with antique children’s toys and teddy bears in halls and landings.

Superb quality sheets, pillows and towels with a comfortable bed met our needs completely. A thoughtful added touch was that a heated rail was available to dry relatively clean towels that, for environmental reasons, we did not want replaced each day. Generous tea, coffee and chocolate making facilities ensured a plentiful supply of hot drinks.

The room was nicely furnished and spotlessly clean but modernisation has resulted in the loss of most of the Georgian structure or design. The original Georgian wooden window shutters enabled us quiet country dwellers to enjoy a peaceful night at the front of the house next to a main road carrying little traffic.

Our hosts Ken and Margaret Westall have a bar area with excellent wide screen television but the bar is not currently opened. Guests are permitted to purchase drinks from the nearby supermarket. A bottle opener and glasses are available on request!

This guest house is in an excellent location. We did not make it to the Bakelite Museum as on the way we found an orchard of free range piglets and their sows. We watched filmed and photographed their antics for quite some time.

Intermittent bad weather thwarted our plans to visit local gardens and we purchased day rover tickets to enjoy visiting Minehead, Watchet and the length of the West Somerset Steam Railway that stops at Williton Station.
The main purpose of our long weekend was to drive our Freelander 4x4 in an escorted cross country expedition through Exmoor and The Brendon Hills. Although this was on a Sunday and we said we would be happy with the cold buffet. Ken and Margaret insisted on providing us with a full English cooked breakfast at 8.00 am. One up on the last hotel we stayed at!

Our 4x4 expedition in torrential rain, muddy tracks and overflowing streams was challenging for drivers but we did get some glimpses of the spectacular scenery and hope to redo the trip with sunshine, viewing and photo opportunities.

If we come again we might consider bringing our dog as a Courtyard room, cheaper than our superior one, would be ideal for this.

In the spirit of “Three in a Bed” we will make a nominal deduction of £5 per person for our stay for a few small issues that fell below the perfection standard. Discussed these in an absolutely friendly way with Ken and Margaret.

In the television programme there was great rivalry between various guest house proprietors to provide the best breakfast. Ken and Margaret would be absolute winners with their griddled mushrooms with of course local bacon, eggs and sausages.

Room Tip: Wide range of rooms available including dog friendly ones not in main building

“A fantastic B and B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 May 2011

We stayed in the White House Guesthouse last Thursday night. We thought the house was beautiful and very homely. The room was excellent with a very comfortable, big bed and fluffy white towels. Breakfast was delicious with lots of choice. The owners were amazing, very welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. We were made to feel at home and watched the Royal Wedding in the residents lounge with complimentary Bucks Fizz.. There was no rush for us to leave and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Thank you so much and we will definitely stay here again.
