Discovered it purely by chance when I stopped for a light lunch one day, liked the look of it's slightly faded, slightly old fashioned charm (and the price of the beer) and decided to give it a try some time in the future for an overnight stay.
This we have just done and it was superb. The bedroom was ground floor in the rear extension, spacious with a confortable kingsize double, clean, tidy and with everything you could need. Its location meant that it was very quiet but I would imagine that rooms in the older part of the hotel nearer to A38 could be less so.
All staff - reception, bar. restaurant and breakfast were helpful and friendly.
Dinner was excellent in both standard of cooking and ingredients and would not have been out of place in a four or five star establishment and because it was booked at the time of booking the room, the £24 two course menu price was reduced to just £9 - fantastic value with free coffee and truffles following. Breakfast too was very very good.
Will certainly use it again.
