“JUST COULDN'T FAULT IT”

Discovered it purely by chance when I stopped for a light lunch one day, liked the look of it's slightly faded, slightly old fashioned charm (and the price of the beer) and decided to give it a try some time in the future for an overnight stay.
This we have just done and it was superb. The bedroom was ground floor in the rear extension, spacious with a confortable kingsize double, clean, tidy and with everything you could need. Its location meant that it was very quiet but I would imagine that rooms in the older part of the hotel nearer to A38 could be less so.
All staff - reception, bar. restaurant and breakfast were helpful and friendly.
Dinner was excellent in both standard of cooking and ingredients and would not have been out of place in a four or five star establishment and because it was booked at the time of booking the room, the £24 two course menu price was reduced to just £9 - fantastic value with free coffee and truffles following. Breakfast too was very very good.
Will certainly use it again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room off the glazed corridor facing onto the rear car park.(But not if it means that I can...

“Overpriced and very dated room”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 August 2011

Thought this hotel was extremely overpriced for B&B in Somerset. For £138 we had a stained carpet in the room the room smelt and our son's camp bed which cost £20 sank in the middle!! We didn't have a chance to complain as had to rush off to a wedding. On a positive note the staff are very friendly and helpful and breakfast was good.

“4 star food in a 3 star hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 July 2011

We stayed in the Walnut Tree Hotel for 6 nights in July. We found the all of the staff very friendly, welcoming, helpful & efficient. The decor was lovely. The food both at breakfast & dinner either in the dining room or the bistro was fantastic - 4 star food at 3 star prices. Agreat 1st time experience for an Irish couple on their 1st holiday in England.

“A Bit Too Chintzy!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 June 2011 via mobile

Stayed here while working locally so the location was great - 5 mins from work. First room I had was large, comfortable but in need of updating and a duvet rather than a blanket and sheets! Second room was slightly smaller but put me in mind of a residential home for the elderly! Food was ok but not within the budget of a business traveller! Bar was pretty good and the quiz was a great evening's entertainment!

“A hidden Gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 April 2011

I have stayed here on numerous occasions and different parts of the year.

This really is a hidden gem set in the somerset countryside. I have to say I cannot fault this place the owners, staff cannot do enough for you, the rooms are tastefully decorated with a personal touch and all mod cons!

You are made to feel very welcome by both the owners and all their staff.

The food is of a very high standard, a good wine list and more importantly a decent pint of beer.

This place does get busy so advance booking is advantageous. Although its can get busy it never feels like it is fully booked their is a real calm relaxed environment around the place.

If theirs any warts in this place I can't find them and as I have said I've stayed here a lot.

Give this place a go you won't be dissappointed
