“unbeatable for comfort, ambience and food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 December 2011

A warm friendly welcome awaits anyone stopping at the Hood arms, This owner run hotel oozes a warm ambience from the moment you walk in. The rooms are spacious, comfortable and quiet so a good nights sleep is guaranteed. The hotel restaurant is cosy and food quality excellent. The bar serves excellent real ales and a good selection of house wines. It is a locals pub and the locals are a friendly welcoming crowd. Definitely stop here again and very recommended.

“best nights sleep for a long time”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 December 2011

stayed here one night in december, the room was in a converted building at the rear of the pub (room 11) and was very quiet, the room was an ample sized double room with a modern shower room, the bed was really comfortable and one of the best nights sleep both of have had in a long time, the breakfast was excellent. Overall a good nights stay but for £95 for a room in a pub i would expect it to be.

“Good dog friendly welcome.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 November 2011

My wife and I stayed here for one night on Saturday 22nd October. A warm busy Pub we arrived early afternoon and had a bar snack which was very good. This establishment is a quintessential old English pub. It has the wood burning stove etc. It is advertised as a dog friendly pub and there were various dogs in attendance ( but not in any overpowering way, it is not a dog's home). We didn't take our dog as we were joining a birthday party meal here later in the day. The rooms here are excellent and ours even had a fourposter bed. The food is very good and breakfast was a better than average full English. The staff are not only very friendly but also very helpful. An arrangement was made for us to watch the World Rugby Cup Final on a large screen TV whilst we were eating our breakfast. Are there any downsides, well very few places are perfect. There are certainly no complaints just a couple of observations. There is a busy main road along the front of the hotel which not a major problem but can be a little noisy if you have front bedroom. The hotel has limited parking in front of the building, but there is a free public car park two minutes away. We will certainly return and the next time we will take our golden retriever.

Room Tip: Two front rooms have fourposter beds.

Very welcoming and friendly hosts and staff. Warm, comfortable elegant room. Great food. What more can a dog and his two keepers hope for? Everything excellent, will definitely return!

“Wonderful, dog friendly hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 October 2011

I can't speak highly enough of our 2 nights at The Hood Arms, we were made to feel so welcome with our 2 dogs. We had a great room, great food and had some great walks in the area.

Thank you to John and Nicky and family for making us so welcome and keeping us entertained. Although, Ruby our lurcher, provided extra entertainment by locking her and Tom Tom in the room!! John was brilliant and unfazed as he got the ladders out, and even had to break the catch on the window before the husband could climb in.. Thanks again John ..

All in all we had a great break and hope to return again soon. if Ruby isn't barred!!!.
