“North Wheddon Farm - beautiful location and accommodation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2012

This was my first visit to North Wheddon farm and I stayed with my family (two young children) for a week. Even though it was December there was plenty to do exploring the stunning countryside, seeing the Exmoor ponies and going to the coast. There was spectacular scenery. My children particularly loved feeding the animals at the farm every day and roaming around the fields. It was great having sheep grazing outside the lounge doors. The barn was very comfortable and well equipped with everything you should want. I would thoroughly recommend it.

“Great food, friendly hosts, peaceful location”

I stayed at North Wheddon Farm for almost a week, and very much enjoyed it (particularly since the weather was fantastic!). The food was excellent - fresh, perfectly cooked and beautifully presented, but not over the top for every day. "Home-grown" sausages for breakfast were superb, and evening meals were something to look forward to. Rachael and Julian are very friendly and helpful, and make their guests feel very welcome, in a home-from-home sort of way. The location is very convenient for exploring Exmoor and great for getting away from it all - very quiet, with no mobile phone signals, and TV only through digibox (couldn't get the WiFi signal to work, but it probably depends on the room you're in).

The farmhouse itself is pleasant and comfortable - homely rather than elegant, though the building is interesting, and I liked the touches of modern-ish art. The double room was very comfortable, but one night in the single room (not en-suite) was not so impressive - comfortable enough, but room seemed to me to lack the attention to detail of the double room (rather dark, and lacking in power points and lights where needed, i.e. over the basin). Private bathroom associated with single room was ok, but similar comments to single room - in need of a bit of updating and TLC.

All in all, a good find, and I'd be very happy to go back (to the double room).

Room Tip: Doubles looked fine; single is ok but private bathroom needs updating.

“Relaxing home from home in a stunning location”

We had a wonderful last-minute week staying in the self-catering barn at the beginning of september with our 8 month old daughter. The barn was very spacious and really well equipped - everything you needed for a home from home, including travel cot, high chair, mini blender and bread maker! The lounge had windows looking out onto the yard with chickens, geese and ducks - our daughter loved them and made a beeline for the window every morning, crowing with excitement. It was also a lovely touch to arrive to the smell of a freshly baked loaf, with sausages, eggs and bacon for the morning.

The setting was absolutely beautiful. Although the weather wasn't great that week, we were able to really relax and there was loads to see and do.
We would definitely come back if we visit Exmoor again.

“Fabulous farm stay - perfect for couples and families!”

We stayed in August, in Eden Lodge, with our then 8 week old son. The apartment was very well equipped, very clean and had more than enough space for the three of us and all the kit that comes with travelling with a baby.

We were made to feel welcome right from the start, with bread baking ready for us - a very nice and unexpected welcome (not to mention the 'home grown' sausages and bacon too!).

The grounds were lovely, and we really liked that you could simply wander around and my wife was particularly taken by the chickens/ducks etc in the court yard!

No secret has been made that mobile phone signal isn't great on site, which was nice as I could really relax and not be disturbed, though there is a payphone that accepts in coming calls if you want to contact people. Best of both worlds!

All in all a superb place to stay, close to many points of interest, yet far enough out to really relax.
