“Excellent...... nearly superb”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 October 2011

Stunning, stunning views from every window, a genuinely warm and informal greeting, spacious, clean and comfortable room, super breakfast, lovely grounds, this place has it all!

We have just spent a couple of days there winding down and were blessed with great unseasonal October weather as well as the delights of the Hotel.

So why only 'nearly' superb? Well, our little suite's sitting room was comfortable but not really a beguiling place to be and the lighting was poor for reading (a standard lamp by the settee and a few more knicknacks would solve the practical lighting problem and transform the ambience) and being a period building the noise insulation between rooms and plumbing noise suppression wasn't perfect. But hey, we are splitting hairs here, you must go and you will love it, we did.

You must think me very rude not to have replied to your review! Normally Trip Advisor acknowledge when we have a new review but for some reason the system hasn’t worked for a couple of months and I didn’t realise that you had written – so many apologies!

We are so glad that you had a lovely time with us and thank you for your constructive comments regarding the sitting room. These have been noted and I am now on the look out for a lamp and one or two ‘bits and pieces’! With older properties it can be quite difficult to keep all plumbing noises at bay!

Despite the rain we are still continuing to have mild weather and I am taking the opportunity to get out and about and walk all over Exmoor. Unfortunately Derek has a bad back so can’t join me. We hope you both had a wonderful time over Christmas and we wish you a very happy and peaceful New Year.

Many thanks for taking the time to write such a kind review
Best wishes

“A very special place.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 September 2011

Just returned home after staying two nights in this beautiful B&B. Would highly recommend anyone staying here. Derek and Becky are great hosts, nothing is to much trouble for them. When we arrived we were greeted by Becky who after showing us to our delightful room, offered us a drink, we decided to take this on the veranda and take in the wonderful views. When we came down there was two large slices of flapjack and a large pot of tea. Just what we needed. The views up over Dunkery Beacon are breathtaking, and a lovely walk without being to difficult. Breakfast was lovely, especially the fresh fruit salad each day, all cooked and well presented.
Derek and Becky have this unique way of making all their guests feel like you have known them for years, their friendliness rubs off on you and the other guests and your soon all getting on like one big family. All in all a really great place to stay, and we can't wait to return soon. Thank you both for a lovely weekend.

Room Tip: Room 10, Large room, en-suite, comfy bed and the most amazing views you won't want to leave.

What a super review and thank you for taking the time to write it. At the moment the moors are looking stunning (well they always do no matter what the weather). We have managed to get out taking advantage of the recent beautiful weather and had some wonderful walks with the dogs. Now the stags have started their rut and at night you can hear them roaring over the moor – it’s quite haunting!

It was lovely to have met you both and we look forward to meeting you again and once again many thanks for your very kind words
Best wishes

“A hidden gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 September 2011

Having read the superlative comments about the Dunkery Beacon we were keen to try it out ourselves and booked in for 3 nights .We were not disappointed. What makes this place so good is that Derek and Becky have the ability to make their guests feel so welcome and nothing seems to be too much trouble.Whilst this in itself doesn't sound too surprising the fact is that very few proprietors of hotels and b&b establishments have such a natural charm. Add in the magnificent breakfasts, stunning views and abundance of wild life and you have an exceptional place to stay.

Room Tip: Room 10 has a large south facing bay window with panoramic views

Thank you for taking the time to write your review and apologies for taking so long to reply (I did start but the computer has been playing up for a few days but we are now back on track)!

We are delighted to hear that you had such a great time with us and that you felt so welcome. It was great to have met you both and hopefully you can come down again and stay with us at a different time of the year and capture a different aspect of this beautiful area. At the moment when we go out we often see stags with their herd of hinds and in the morning looking out from the windows you can often see herds of 40-50 deer on the slopes of Dunkery. So much changes in such a short time.

Once again many thanks for your very kind review
Best wishes

“Service with a smile”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 September 2011

Stayed at this delightful BnB last weekend. It has a great location for exploring Exmoor, with breathtaking views over the national park. The owner provides for every request with a smile. He stayed up late to welcome us because we got lost in traffic, and had coffee waiting. The room was great, homely and had a little sitting area to sip tea whilst watching the clouds glide by. The bed was one of the most comfortable we have ever slept in. The breakfast the next day was adequate and well-prepared. If we had one small criticism it would be that the power of the shower is very weak. Nevertheless would definitely recommend, and stay again. And all at a price that is verging on bargain.

Room Tip: Stay in Room 10 - good views and large en-suite.

We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us and assuming that you made it to the wedding on time! We have noted your comments about the shower and the problem is the water pressure in the village is very low. We are looking at having a pump installed under the bath to get a more powerful shower that way.

It was lovely to meet you all and have you to stay with us and hope that you will come and visit us again.

“Would recommend the Dunkery Beacon every time”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 September 2011

We stayed at the Dunkery Beacon last weekend and had a wonderful stay and would definitely return. We were in the area for a wedding and we had our two sons who are 7 and 13. Beccy welcomed us so warmly and friendly and showed us our rooms which were lovely, spacious and had wonderful views and ensuiites. Everything was immaculately clean. Beccy then offered us some tea and we sat outside in the wonderful garden with tea and cakes in the sunshine. The beds were very comfy and the place is so quiet we had a lovely sleep.

The next morning we were greeted for a wonderful tasty breakfast including cereals, lovely fresh fruit and yoghurts and the very happy Derek. Beccy and Derek are perfect hosts who helped us book a table for dinner at a local pub and recommended things to do, they are great without being intrusive.

A lovely stay and even the boys enjoyed it very much (especially breakfast they said)

Thank you for writing such a lovely review and apologies for the delay in replying but the computer has been out of order for the past week or so. We are so pleased that you had such an enjoyable stay with us and it was lovely to meet you all.

The weather at the moment is unbelievable – brilliant hot sunshine and not a cloud in the sky. It’s such a boost for this time of year. We have been making the most of it and taking the dogs out in the evening when it’s a bit cooler and going down by the river at Winsford.
Hopefully we may see you again in the future when you have a little more time to explore beautiful Exmoor!
Many thanks again
Best wishes
