We went to The Bell at Standlake last night and had such an amazing meal I am compelled to write a review almost immediately so that others can go and enjoy it too.
The pub is really cosy and welcoming when you first enter. There was a very pleasant buzz of chat around the bar area and dining room and open fires everywhere, which was very welcome when the temperature outside was registering at -8! We were shown to a small dining area by a very friendly waitress. I chose the "dippy duck egg" with brioche soldiers to start and it was so good. Such an interesting and creative idea that worked really well. It was a special but I really encourage others to try it if it appears as a special again when they visit. For my main course I had a burger, which was also outstanding. Really well cooked and with some lovely fries to go with it. For pudding I had the apple and sultana crumble with vanilla ice cream, which was also wonderful.
My boyfriend had the dippy duck egg, pork belly and sticky toffee pudding and proclaimed them all to be excellent too.
I really can't recommend The Bell highly enough. I can be a bit picky about food and service etc but I genuinely couldn't find anything to fault it. It was one of those meals where we raved about it to each other all the way home in the car and are still talking about it this morning.
Go - immediately!
