“A Great time at Eynsham”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

I have been to Eynsham Hall many times, perhaps as many as 50 over the last 13 years, almost always on business, running training courses etc.
I really love the place, the staff are always incredibly helpful and kind and professional and go out of their way to make your stay a very pleasant one.
The setting is simply wonderful, in many acres of forest, woodland with beautiful lakes within walking distance. On-site there is a lovely swimming pool, mixed sauna, fully equipped gymnasium and everything is provided, towels etc there is no cost for the use of the pool and gymnasium for anyone staying at the Hall.

The bedrooms in the main hall are very lovely spacious and with great views. The bedrooms in some of the outlying buildings are not always quite as big.
One of the best experiences is the food, I have always been absolutely delighted with the quality and quantity of food provided.
I am a vegetarian and I could not be better catered for. On many of the courses we run we have people who are vegan and also with many different food intolerances.
The kitchen staff really do go out of their way to help in every possible way they can.

Room Tip: Ask for a bedroom in the main building with a view out the back.

“Hall great, rooms not so”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

On arrival very impressed with the Hall and public areas. Our room was located in Eynsham Court which meant we had to walk round the road to reach the dining room, never had to wear a coat to beakfast before! The room was very small and spent as little time as possible in it as it was quite depressing, we had to take it in turns to move! The bed was very uncomfortable and the pillows very hard. Think the hotel has an identity problem, not sure if it wants to be an hotel or conference centre.
However, we had dinner there and the food was extremely good. The staff were very pleasant and helpful but the bar got very busy and at times was quite a challenge to get a drink.
Lovely setting but wouldn't stay here again.

“If only they'd let us have what we booked....”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

We booked through LateRooms.com and were very excited about the weekend away. However, whilst travelling the afternoon before the night of our stay, we had a phone call to say we couldn't have the double room we'd requested and the bathroom of a twin room would be across the corridor from the bedroom. Not ideal at our age, we were offered one of the rooms outside the Main Hall but the reviews hadn't recommended those at all. We don't have phones with Internet (or know how to use them if we did) in order to try to book elsewhere on a similar deal, so we came home early. What a disappointment. Does the hotel wait until after the time when you can cancel without penalty, then allocate on the basis of what's been paid? If there are restrictions on rooms, the hotel should be honest about them on their site.

Room Tip: Make sure the room you want has been allocated before you set off - it could be too late to find an...

“Lovely location, impressive exterior - but needs a bit of TLC”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

We stayed one night. Our room was miles from reception up two flights of stairs and through numerous doors: quite a [--] to get to. It was large, smelled strongly of tobacco smoke (even though smoking is forbidden) and needed airing. But the large double bed was comfortable and there was a state of the art plasma TV, kettle and tea/coffee making facilities. There is a decent complimentary pool which we enjoyed and the staff seemed friendly. With a bit of refurbishment and investment/modernising this could be a top notch hotel.

“Better than expected”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

Stayed here just for one night (Sat). After reading the reviews went not expecting too much.We booked directly with the hotel to make sure we got a room in the main hall.I can understand the bad reviews if you got a room outside the main hall as we had a walk after breakfast the next day and from what we could see the rooms were tiny.Wouldn't have been happy staying in one of those.
The grounds and hall are magnificent and full of character.Felt as if I was in Downton Abbey!
Our actual room was nothing special just a hotel room typical 3 star standard, double bed not kingsize but the view from the window overlooked the gardens which was nice.Bed not particularly that comfortable, needs a new mattress or at least a mattress topper as I had a spring digging me in the ribs all night. Also found the room too hot although the radiator was turned to zero the pipes run through the room so no avoiding it.The temp outside was below zero too.
Bathroom nothing special just a small shower cubicle,no bath. Also a fixed shower head so difficult to avoid getting your hair wet if you didn't want to wash it.
Found all the staff very polite and courteous without exception.
Breakfast was ok,the usual stuff nothing extra special, buffet style hot and cold. You could have porridge, kippers, smoked salmon and scrambled eggs etc made to order too if you wished.
On the website they have some rooms which look a lot more flash than the one we got.As there does not seem to be any variation in price in the hall don't know how you get these rooms.Even when we asked we didn't really get a straight answer so for next time still don't know!
Paid £75 for a double room which was good value for staying at 'Downton Abbey'!

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the main hall. Its worth the small extra.
