“Very noisy, a bit smelly and would never return”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 October 2010

We stayed here while walking the St Cuthbert's Way and it was a big mistake.
The room was okay - but quite stuffing / smells and a little dank.
It did have a big TV which would be nice if it could be heard. Our room was above the pub and faced the street which meant that it was very noise till around 4am.

Stay somewhere else.

“Clean, great value and Biker friendly”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 September 2010

Our group of four professional blokes and one lady were quite suited with this straightforward, no-frills 'pub with rooms' in the centre of a bustling border town. Our rooms were clean but basic, and we were warned that we would be at the front overlooking a typical Friday/Saturday night scene with the pub entertainment going on until 1am below. I retired at approx 12.30am on the Friday with the locals at full pelt; a warm night with the window open, the curtains cut out all outside light - a hard days ride in the saddle and 3 pints of Carlsberg, I was out like a light in my comfy bed! Only my mates snoring disturbed me! Breakfast was chosen the night before and was freshly cooked..plentiful (and I can tell you these guys can put it away!). Wooler is a great base for this biker-heaven and will visit again. The Italian restaurant behind the pub was a good recommendation (w/end booking essential) and our hosts were keen to have our bikes covered and secured at night. Didn't have an evening meal here but all the tables were busy on both evenings-tells us something? Anyway, back in Lancashire now..and I'll probably be calling everyone 'Pet' tomorrow!

“Excellent Value”

If you are expecting the Ritz this is not for you but what value. We stayed 2 nights and had great time. £50 per couple which included a lovely cooked breakfast. The room we had was in an annex and had all facilities and also big enough to accomodate a sofa if you wnated to stay in. Bar prices are great eg House Wine South African Merlt £8.

Ok it gets abit rowdy in the bar at night as the locals seem to like it too but who cares?.One can eat in Bar til 8pm after that there is a restaurant attached through the back entrance.Supposed to be great according to barman in pub opposite! We had steak and ale pie first night and it was excellent.

You won't get waited on hand in foot but nor will you get pestered.Ideal for Borders.

Great greeting at reception warm and friendly, room great we had two eleven year old,s who slept right through, yes there was a little noise from pub over the road, but what do you expect when staying on a main street, rooms were very clean, beds comfortable. We had a bar meal in the pub and it was very nice.Breakfast was fantastic great variety of food, nice and hot,and the young staff that were on shift were happy cheerful and very helpful. The money that we paid for a family room with cooked breakfast was great value, and we would definitely book again.
