“Absolute Perfection”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 July 2010

We had the most wonderful stay at Pele Cottage and cannot fault it in anyway whatsoever. Bill and Jane are the most welcoming of hosts, going out of their way to make you feel welcome, their first priority at all times being to make your stay as perfect as possible. The whole accommodation is of the very finest quality and absolutely spotless. White Company bed linen, quilts and towels, fresh flowers in the room, Moulton Brown toiletries and home made muffins at the end of the day are just some of the things that make this two night stay so wonderful. The breakfast was delicious, the fresh fruit salad prepared by Jane was the highlight. The location was so peaceful and relaxing with outstanding views over open countryside.
I cannot recommend Pele Cottage highly enough and can't wait to return.

“This is a perfect retreat”

We can highly recommend a visit to Pele Cottage at Wingates. The accommodation in the converted Pele Tower is really excellent with two cosy bedrooms each with luxurious bedding, a private guest sitting room with views of the Cheviot Hills and a bathroom to die for. Breakfast is served in the dining room and the ingredients for this delicious meal are sourced locally, the eggs from Jane and Bill's rare breed hens and home made bread for toast. Jane and Bill Cotton both work so hard to provide every comfort for their bed and breakfast guests and are happy to cater for special dietary needs. This is a perfect retreat from which to explore the delights of Northumberland. We are very much looking forward to our next visit.

“Beautifully presented with wonderful details and yummy food”

It was an ideal venue for a family , 2 bedrooms on one landing , bathroom and small sitting room. Everything was wonderfully presented, small details such as fluffy white dressing gowns, water by the bed, the hosts were very welcoming and left cake for us every day. Highly recommended and we hope return.

“You must stay here!”

Pele Cottage is an almost perfect bed and breakfast and the only reason they haven't got five stars is because their rooms are not quite large enough to fit the criteria. Jane and Bill, the hosts are lovely people who will make you feel welcome wthout smothering you, will join you for a chat in the gazebo as you look over the spectacular Northumberland landscape, and will offer invaluable tourist advice. Once you have eaten their breakfasts you won't need to eat again for the rest of the day. The bedrooms, bathroom and lounge form a mini-apartment which is rented out as a unit. The bathroom is fantastic and comes fully stocked with Molton Brown bath products, candles and fluffy white bathrobes; the lounge has a TV and comes equipped with an electric piano that you are welcome to play. Jane will ply you with home-baked cakes every afternoon. Pele Cottage is a remote retreat in the middle of often-overlooked but stunning scenery. We will be going back!

“Fabulous stay at Pele Cottage”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 September 2008

It's hard to put into words just how much we enjoyed our stay at Pele Cottage!
From the moment we arrived, Jane and Bill were extremely welcoming and friendly. Their home is beautiful, set in a village that feels like it's a million miles away from anywhere yet is in a fantastic location for visiting all of Northumberland's treasures.
We didn't have any particular plans for what we wanted to do during our visit, and our hosts' local knowledge was a great help in making the most out of our time.
The breakfasts were delicious, with my fiance plumping (appropriate word!) for the full English on two days out of three, which featured eggs from the hens in the back garden and deliciously meaty sausages. This was just one of the options on offer, in addition to cereal, yoghurts, fresh fruit salad, and plenty of toast - a great start to a day out exploring.
Home-made cake was put out for us every day in the guests' sitting room (which we had all to ourselves as the two bedrooms are only let out simultaneously if the occupants have come as a group), and the bathroom had a lovely deep bath and a first-class shower. The sitting room also had a huge selection of books, magazines, a stereo, television and VCR.
There was plenty of room to put away our clothes in our room, and getting into the extremely comfy bed at night was a real joy! Our bed was turned down for us in the evening, and new bottles of water put out for us every day.
Everything about the accommodation was just right, from the basics through to the fine details, and we felt truly looked after for the whole of our stay.
Bill and Jane were great hosts and we can thoroughly recommend a stay at Pele Cottage to anyone.
