“Toon & Broon”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012 via mobile

We have been at Longhirst for just over an hour,
1st, reception very friendly & helpful.
2nd, room very very small, clean with everything we need except WIFI as advertised when booking.
3rd, WIFI is only in the main guest areas which is very disappointing as we wanted it & were promised it in our room.
4th, bar is nice warm & welcoming & that's all we have to report for now!!!!

“Health and Safety”

My wife and I booked into the hotel for a three night break 4-7 Jan. We checked all the reviews which were great. Our experience of the accommodation and staff in particular was excellent as I denoted in my feedback at the end of our stay. Why do I score it so low? On the last night the fire alarm went off at midnight(room 220) and we and several others made our way to the nearest fire exit where we stayed for nearly 30 mins. No member of staff arrived and we made our way back after standing in the freezing cold. I went to reception and a member of staff looked in amazement and said it was a false alarm. The issue for me was that we were not to know and importantly it could have been genuine and no staff member came to assist. In terms of health and safety the hotel failed miserably. I saw the duty manger the following morning who said the manager would contact me the following week and offer an explanation...............needless to say this did not happen. It is a shame as we really enjoyed ourselves and as I say the staff were generally great BUT safety procedures are abysmall, compunded by a lack of customer service from senior management.

Room Tip: Set in own grounds so all rooms are quiet.

“Great short break at Longhirst Hall Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

Stayed at Longhirst Hall Hotel in January 2012 on arrival we were upgraded to a superior room without asking and the staff were helpful and efficient and answered all our questions regarding the immediate area and what we could visit at this time of year. It was a great base for our first visit to the area.
The breakfast had a good variety of cereal, fruit and cooked food which was all well presented. We also had dinner in the restaurant and this was excellent and would reccomend to anyone staying at the hotel. Bar food was also available this looked good but we only ate in the restaurant.

“"Restaurant excellent. . . let down by uncaring staff!".”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

Me and my fiance stayed a night for her 33rd birthday last year (May 2011) . We took the best available rate which was £85 plus two three course dinners in the Boyston restaurant @ £22.50 each. Being our first night stay at Longhirst, on arrival our checked in was a very warm and welcoming one. We were not shown to our rooms, just given directions which didn't bother us. The room - very small, horrible matress and pillows. I have had better rooms at the Premier Inn! Our one night stay included a one hour complimentary use of the Decoro spa facilities (which had to booked in advance). We found this facility very good. I believe access to these facilities are now £9.95 per hour.
Boyson Restaurant. This was the highlight of our stay as the food was excellent. What let the restaurant down was the service staff. Quite clueless to the demands of fine dining and the needs of the customer. We ordered a bottle of prosecco sparkling wine which was just under £20 a bottle (£6 to 7 in asda) I know . . . we were in a restaurant! They didn't have any left so we went for a bottle of Pinot Grigio. I would say the restaurant had about 20 people dining that night, and they delivered our dessert to the wrong table! An elderly lady on that table ate my dessert (completely) then complained to staff to the fact that she hadn't order it! And yes, they brought her her original order which she then scoffed just as quick as the first! Finally we received our desserts, then left before the coffee.
Breakfast. For a supplement you can get your breakfast delivered to your room. This supplement was found to be £10! We filled in our breakfast cards then hung them on the door. The following day, our breakfast arrived at the time we requested. This was just a bog standard everyday all day breakfast, nothing special, but had items on the plate that were NOT requested. They even forgot the milk for out tea.
I had the opportunity to fill in a customer comments card. All above went onto this card which was handed in at reception. I can only imagine that my card was destroyed.
Hope you have a better stay than us.

Room Tip: The more you pay the better you will receive. . .
