“A good place to stay on Holy Island”

We stayed here for the weekend recently for a birthday celebration.(also stayed here the same weekend last year). The situation of the hotel is perfect, with excellent views to the harbour and castle from the front of the building. It is a comfortable, friendly place to stay. The breakfasts are very good.I like the new extended bar area. The central heating is centrally controlled,so at times the rooms can feel cold in December!
It is well worth staying on Holy Island rather than visiting just for the day. That way one can experience the unique atmosphere of the island.
We have also stayed at the Lindisfarne Hotel and The Ship Inn(but a number of years ago). They were both good also.

Room Tip: The best views are at the front, although the rooms are more expensive

“Lovely place to stay”

What a lovely hotel - stayed two nights in October when a friend got married at the castle, we had two small children and booked a family room. It was a great sized clean room at the top of the hotel with all you would expect such as kettle, variety of refreshments, TV, complimentary toiletries and a modern bathroom. Really enjoyed the view from both sides, one window overlooked the sea and the castle, the other overlooked the priory. After a very long journey there, we all felt very welcome and comfortable.
The staff were very friendly and helpful, one evening they made sandwiches for the kids even though they were no longer doing the lunch menu. The bar was lovely, we visited a few pubs on the island and this bar was the best one, and felt like it had just been modernised.
Should we find ourselves up that way in the future we will book here again!

Room Tip: Family room is very comfortable for 4 people.

“The best views on the Island”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 November 2011

We stayed here for two nights in October and really enjoyed it.
We had a deluxe room at the the back of the hotel with fantastic views across the harbour towards the castle - we woke up at 7.30 and happened to look out of the window - the sunrise was simply stunning!!
Room was very clean, bed was VERY comfy. Bathroom was spotless.
The hotel has recently been extensively redecorated so the communal areas are bright and modern - a little too modern for me but nicely done. I liked the quirky commissioned pictures they have on the walls.
Due to the tide times we arrived quite late but that wasn't a problem and the welcome was friendly - be warned though no one serves food after 8pm on the Island, but they did tell us that beforehand.
Had lunch there and it was nice but quite overpriced. Breakfast was good quality with very nice sausages!
Holy Island is a peaceful, lovely place to unwind from the world - three pubs and one shop I think. Bit of a shock for us city dwellers but after a few hours you adapt and enjoy the quiet.
Enjoy!

Room Tip: Make sure you get a room with a view - one of the locals admitted it's the best on the Island!

“A Gem of a Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 November 2011

This is a perfect example of what small English Hotels should be like, comfortable beds, friendly service, excellent food, comfortable bar and staff who genuinely seem to care about delivering the best in all areas including high quality toiletries in the bathroom and quality biscuits on the tea tray. The location is stunning being right next to the Priory and with views of the Castle and North Sea overlooking the Harbour. They don't admit to WiFi but I suspect they do have it - didn't get round to asking as we were too chilled out with the wonderful walks from the hotel and the view from our room!

Room Tip: Room 10 has great views but probably any room on that side are just as good.

“Homely hotel, with home cooked food and excellent service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 October 2011

I recently stayed at this hotel for an overnight break with my wife. The room we were allocated, room 10, had fantastic views of the harbour to one side and to the other side we overlooked the Priory. We could have spent hours in our room just admiring the scenery. We also had a grandstand view of a beautiful sunrise over the sea. The evening meal menu is basic but the food is all homemade, piping hot and the table service excellent.
There were nice additional touches such as the waitress taking time out to discuss where we intended to visit on the island and giving us some recommendations.
Breakfast is fantastic with two local fish choices of smoked haddock or Craster Kipper, for the traditionalist there is the full English Breakfast which set us up for the day.
Although only a small island there is plenty to do and see and if you are a bird or wildlife lover you will be in seventh heaven.
We will definately be back for a longer stay.
