“Changed ownership has made this place a great place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

I had previously reviewed here but wish to change my comments. My previous review was rated "average" and I was never overly impressed with the place. However, I saw in a local paper of an offer for £5pppn stay during February and that it was under new management since late summer of last year. We went for this and have had an absolutely lovely weekend.

The room has been recently refurbished and was very clean and extremely comfortable. The bed was enormous! So a lovely nights sleep came our way. The weather hasn't been good so it was so lovely so sit in our very warm room, having a hot chocolate and looking out at the snow falling in the beer garden grounds, Very cosy indeed!

We ate in the restaurant and would say that there is a very high standard of food and they take pride in the food (unless previously). All home made and very delicious indeed and not overly priced. My only criticism would be that the portion size was very large. I could only eat half! But lovely quality and the staff couldn't do enough for us,

The breakfast was nice. Cereals, toast, juices and full english breakfast or choice of kippers. I would have liked to have seen salmon and scrambled a egg as another lighter choice (the scrambled egg on the breakfast was very good indeed) but enjoyed the cooked breakfast regardless.

I would like to thank the staff for a really lovely weekend. We had a great night in the bar listening to a chap playing 70s rock on his guitar (and it wasn't stupidly loud where you couldn't have a talk) it was really good. We will be back and have already recommended to all my family.

“Great Place To Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 November 2011

Usually eat here in the summer when staying along the road at Proctor Steads caravan site. The food since the new owners took over is great. So we thought we would try staying there for a night. We were not dissapointed in any way.Its very friendly and very reasonably priced. The staff are very attentive. Thoroughly recomended.

“Cottage in the Wood!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 November 2011

Intriguing drive through the woods to the entrance to the Cottage Inn! Where were we going to end up? Answer, in a clean good sized room, friendly staff and really good food (and massive portions!). Our only criticism would echo a previous comment: the smell of cooking does permeate the bar and reception area.
Still a good choice.

“Best place ever!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 October 2011

Room was clean and spacious, all up to standard. The bed linen was fresh and the bed very comfortable. Food was excellent, wide choice and everything so fresh.
I chose this place for it's location and is best place I stayed ever. This hotel definitely gives value for money. I will certainly return and recommend this unique place in beautiful surrounding. All staff was very efficient and friendly (Rob in the bar, Jagienka and Eva in the Restaurant sorry that’s all I remember). Having coffee outside you can have a nice chat with the owner. Well done Debra!!! I know what best customer service mean as I work for Hilton. Will be definitely back.

Room Tip: All rooms are very clean and quiet.

“Weekend Break”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 October 2011

Stayed at the Cottage Inn for a 2 night break - great location. The rooms were a decent size and very clean. The staff were very friendly and attentive and the food was excellent. With beer at 2 for £5 and a bottle of wine for £9 it was well worth the money. Will definitely be returning and recommending to friends.
