“Just Ace”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

Stayed for one night on 26th January 2012. My mother and I shared the twin room with en suite. A lovely large room with sofa and TV and tea and coffee facilities. Everything was perfect from the comfy beds, large fluffy towels, toiletries, and the special touches like a sweet on top of the towels and the homebaked cake along with the tea facilities. Breakfast was a lovely start to the day in the welcoming breakfast room with the open fire. Plenty to choose from but have to say I have never tasted such delicious porridge. A very nice place to stay and would definately go again.

It is so lovely to know that we have another fan of our porridge. We are thinking of forming an Old Vicarage Porridge Club ... It is just so popular ! Thank you for all your other lovely comments about your stay here. Do come back soon. Porridge is available all year round (we wouldn't dare take it off in the summer!) Best wishes Ruth and Maurice

“Like being welcomed in a Edwardian Manor house”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

They say that the further north you travel in England the friendlier the people. Berwick is about as far north you can get in England and Ruth & Maurice, the owners, are great ambassadors to the well earned reputation.

From a lovely welcoming sherry, tea and a cake, the accurate local advice to the little finishing touches in the spotless rooms; it's probably as good a Guest House you can get.

Breakfast was lovely and served on the best china befitting the elegance of the dining room. The (very well kept) house is old and wonderful, filled with period furniture, high ceilings; huge rooms and ambience. It was like staying in a stately home or manor house - as guests of the Lord of the Manor, himself.

The only fault I could suggest is the low water pressure in the shower, which was just adequate. But that's a small detail in an otherwise great experience.

Ruth gave great advice about where to eat in Berwick, a short and very pleasant walk across the River Tweed old bridge.

“Great place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 December 2011

We stayed here for one night whilst attending a event in the area. It is a beautiful property which is immaculately maintained. Our bedroom had a large, comfortable bed and was the cleanest room I have ever experienced in a B&B. The little touches; some cake and the provision of lovely showergel and body cream made it more personal. The breakfast was absolutely fantastic and it was the best porridge I have ever had. A lovely couple who really make you feel at home in their home. Great location too for walking into Berwick or visiting surrounding attractions.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 7 which was at the front of the house but I am sure that the other rooms would be...

“Outstanding Guest House”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 November 2011

By far, the best Guest House we had ever stayed in. As Americans, we so appreciated the fluffy towels and washcloths, no less! The decor and furniture were elegant and comfortable.
The location of the House was perfect so that one could walk easily around the area.
The full and I do mean, full,English breakfast, the next morning was wonderful, with so many choices of entrees, jellies, pastries served in an elegant dining room by the friendly staff.
Our only regret was that we couldn't spend another few nights in this lovely Guest House.

We stayed at the Old Vicarage at Easter this year and were very impressed with.... everything!.
Maurice and Ruth are the perfect hosts. Our room was very spacious and the balcony was the perfect place to take tea. There are a large variety of breakfasts to choose from, all well prepared, and served in the large dining room. A nice touch was the fridge on the landing outside the rooms containing fresh milk and chocolate. Excellent place to stay and only a short walk from the town centre with all its historic features.

Thank you so much for taking the time to give us some feedback from your stay at The Old Vic back in June. How lovely to read that you enjoyed our little roof terrace and that the weather was kind enough to let you sit and have tea - very civilised! Hope to see you back here in 2012, meanwhile best wishes for the New Year - Ruth and Maurice
