They say that the further north you travel in England the friendlier the people. Berwick is about as far north you can get in England and Ruth & Maurice, the owners, are great ambassadors to the well earned reputation.
From a lovely welcoming sherry, tea and a cake, the accurate local advice to the little finishing touches in the spotless rooms; it's probably as good a Guest House you can get.
Breakfast was lovely and served on the best china befitting the elegance of the dining room. The (very well kept) house is old and wonderful, filled with period furniture, high ceilings; huge rooms and ambience. It was like staying in a stately home or manor house - as guests of the Lord of the Manor, himself.
The only fault I could suggest is the low water pressure in the shower, which was just adequate. But that's a small detail in an otherwise great experience.
Ruth gave great advice about where to eat in Berwick, a short and very pleasant walk across the River Tweed old bridge.
