“Yuk!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

Yuk Yuk on arrival there was pubic hair, dirty toilet, second hand soap, dirty carpet, dust cobwebs, dust on surfaces, coffee splashed up the wall and smelly bed (sweat). We tried to eat a meal, the stater was fine but the main course was not as on the menu I.e. steak and ale pie with garlic crust was actually stew with two bits of garlic bread on top. The veg was so salty I couldn't eat it when we complained the staff agreed it was too salty! We got a taxi and had a main course at a local pub which was top class food.
Overall we would not stay here again we would keep driving!!

“A convenient budget priced stopover”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 January 2012

Located immediately off the A1, close to Bamburgh, so a good overnight stop and also convenient for tourist locations. The staff were friendly. Meals in the restaurant were good but it lacks ambience. The room was comfortable but could have been better cleaned. Irritatingly we had to retune the TV each time it was switched on. The shower was unpredictable as to temperature, swinging from cold to scorching at times.
On the whole, we thought it what you would expect for the price, especially around New Year. Might stay there again en route to Scotland but not for more than the odd night.

“I was pleasantly surprised when we arrived”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 November 2011

I was pleasantly surprised when we arrived at Purdy Lodge. We found it very clean with helpful staff. The meal we had in the evening was well presented and very nice. If I was looking for faults, I would say the windows looked like they hadn't been cleaned since the last time Bamburgh Castle had been invaded, and the used bars of soap in the bathrooms should not be there - liquid soap would be prefered as bars of soap can harbour bacteria. But apart from that, an enjoyable stay for £65 a couple.

“A1 stopover on way to edinburgh”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 November 2011

we booked Purdy lodge as a stopover on the way up to edinburgh. I booked it on-line, based on price and location. I didn`t have very high expectations as the picture of the hotel looked pretty basic. I was pleasantly surprised when we arrived. The appearance and decor was much better than expected. We arrived at 8.45pm. We had not eaten so went straight into their restaurant. The prices were very reasonable and there was a good range of options to suit us all. The staff were very friendly and pleasant. The food arrived very quickly and was very nice. The rooms were clean and had everything we needed. The next morning we enjoyed good, generous sized breakfasts. This was served by equally nice staff. It was enjoyed all the more by the lovely view of Bamburgh castle which could be seen through the restaurant window. Would definitely recommend this has a stopover point.

“Grubby”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 October 2011

people found this review helpful

This place was awful, tired corridors and the rooms were just grubby and unhygienic. There was dust in all the corners of the room, along the headboard and the bathroom was just grubby. The much vaunted view to Bamburgh Castle shows only a speck on the horizon, but the windows looked like they hadn't been cleaned in or out for months, there looked to be the remnants of a dead moth pounded onto the window.

The shower didn't produce any hot water the first morning we were there, and I didn't want to get in the bath as it was not clean at all, and had a grab handle missing leaving two holes into which the shower splashed water - this will surely cause mould under the bath in the long term.

The bar was OK, but I didn't fancy eating there after going in the 24 hour cafe next door and seeing how dusty the carpets in there were. We drove into Bamburgh and Seahouses to eat in the evening and have breakfast respectively, and had friends staying in nice hotels in these small towns for only £20 more.

Avoid this hotel.
