My wife and I stopped here overnight with my son and daughter-in-law and their three young children. We had a double room for ourselves and a huge family room for the rest of the family. We were made to feel very welcome and the rooms were very clean and well equipped. The presence of toys in the lounge was a great plus. The breakfast was fine (and we prefer to order our eggs as and when required). All very family friendly in an unobtrusive kind of way and wonderfully convenient for the village. The only fault we found was that our door would not shut without locking it each time. Not cheap, but compared with other accommodation available in the area, good value for money.

Just visited " The Sunningdale" in Bamburgh village.

Having read previous reviews i could have been quite easily put off from visiting. We're certainly glad that we weren't easily put off.

We arrived and were quickly dealt with at reception.... This would be my only snag if any, theres no real reception as such but i was told by the hotel owners brother that plans are already in place to alter the hotel this winter and build a new reception. We stayed in room 8, a beautiful newly decorated bedroom with a very well presented bathroom suite( No bath) but that didn't bother us.

We decided to eat in the hotels restaurant, having read a previous review we weren't sure what to expect with the mention of the room having no windows !!!!!!!!!! Did this person eat in the same restaurant as ourselves?? The room is great, Spacious, modern and very welcoming. We were served by Sharon. Who can only be described as mad but did she know her job??? She was brilliant and made us feel right at home. The food was excellent. A total credit to the Chef behind the scenes.... The food was out of this world..... We've eaten in many restaurants in our lives and this ranks up there with some of the best. We found out from Sharon that it was the Chefs night off and the boss was cooking. If that was the boss's standard of food we'd love to taste the chef's food. One thing we couldn't understand is how come the restaurant wasn't fully booked.

Breakfast the next morning was again excellent..... If you want eggs, open your mouth and you shall get. A huge selection and choice for breakfast and the place was spotless. I can understand that selfservice wouldn't please everyone as previous reviews have stated but there is noway you can complain about it.

Overall The Sunningdale exceeded our expectations.!!!!!! We loved it and will certainly be returning soon.

I took a group of 22 pilgrims from Kingston, London - staying here on a walk to Holy Island. The owners had been very helpful beforehand - and our stay exceeded expectations in all regards. The location is great - just off the village green, 200 yards I would guess from the Castle and the sea. The food was truely amazing - if you have a chance to eat here for an evening meal do! The rooms are clean, tidy, quite large and comfortable. For great value for money in one of the best villages in England (and Europe) I would definitely recommend.

As a short family break away we ended up staying at the Sunningdale Hotel in Bamburgh. From the moment we arrived at the hotel we were made to feel really welcome by the owners Paul & Clare. A lovely traditional hotel with a modern lounge and dinning area . The food was great , especially as our children are very fussy eaters. The rooms were immaculately clean and comfortable
We look forward to returning to the Sunningdale again for another short break !!
