The owner should come with a warning!
we booked a large table for Sunday dinner and glad we never went.
I rang the restaurant prior to going due to my son having food allergies, the owner answered the phone. He didn't even know my sons allergies before he was telling me not to eat this or that, he was rude, shouted at me n didnt have a clue about allergies! So I ended up hanging up the phone.
When I did call back I cancelled the table, however again I recieved abuse from the owner. Very rude.
I have been in the pass to this restaurant to find the food dry or frozen food reheated. It's over priced and the outside is dated and could do with a good clean.
I would recommend everyone to stay clear there are plenty of lovely places to eat in Alnwick

It has taken me longer than expected to get round to writing this review, but my visit was so bad I have to post this on TA.

I visited Alnwick earlier in the year for a short break with family. One night we decided to eat at the Oaks hotel and restaurant. I chose swordfish from the menu as opposed to the carvery which was on offer. The fish was awful, it looked and tasted like a BOIL IN THE BAG and not like I’d just paid approx £17 for it! It was awful, alongside the veg which were not appropriate to the dish. The man on the table next to me mentioned to the waitress how bad his fish was (same dish as mine) so I took the opportunity to agree with him. The next thing I knew the owner had come over to my table and began defending his dish, not listening to my polite feedback, he was rude, defensive and in no way apologetic for my poor dining experience. He did however refund my meal – which was the least he could do. The 3 other people I was dining with seemed ok with their food, carvery and curry – no room for mistake there I would say.

My dish was bad enough, but the owners behaviour towards me was much worse and inexcusable. With an attitude like that this establishment will not learn from its mistakes, progress, prosper or entice repeat custom.

Had lunch here twice in the last couple of months. The food is quite good although I felt there was little choice for vegetarians.Also if you preferred anything from the "specials" menu it was rather expensive.However, overall the I enjoyed the food, the service was good and best of all the beer,(Jennings real ale) .Jennings "Sneck Lifter" is by far the best beer but unfortunately they do not always have it, only their "Bitter"

As many have said before, this really is a pub with rooms (don't be fooled by the pictures on the website). I was quite happy with the location even though it is not smack in the centre of Alnwick (just a pleasant 10 in walk away). Our room faced onto an outdoor drinking area so traffic noise was not an issue. Luckily for us, the weather was quite cold when we stayed here so there weren't any drinkers using the outdoor space!
The staff are the highlight of our stay - friendly, jovial and funny. The room, however, was disappointing for the money we were charged. The ceiling light was weak, there was just one bedside lamp in our double room, no lights at the dressing table, hair dryer well past it's effective date (and located on the opposite wall to the dressing table!) to mention a few issues. I suspect the poor lighting of the room was also the reason for why the side table holding the tea making facilities and the room telephone had thick layers of dust on them!
On the plus side, the room was well heated and bathroom seemed reasonably clean.
We thought the food was quite good, from the carvery dinner to the enormous cooked breakfasts.
