“Absolutely fantastic.”

If you want to go to Alnwick, this is the hotel to stay at. The staff at The Oaks Hotel (run by Ken & Pauline) are some of the friendliest, most accommodating and hospitable people we have ever had pleasure meeting. As soon as you set foot in the door you feel you are part of The Oaks Hotel family, the Alnwick charm flows naturally and they will do anything for you.

We stayed in a lodge-type room (Room 20) which had a beautiful solid wood four-poster bed. The room (including bathroom) was spotlessly clean. The breakfast the next morning (after a cracking night with the locals, singing along to Bill's mixture of classics) was just what the doctor ordered, beautifully cooked by Edna (who only 6 hours previous had been dancing on the tables).

The Oaks Hotel is close to all the local attractions including Alnwick Garden & Castle (great day out) and the Treehouse Restaurant (fantastic food, place, atmosphere), with taxis only a couple of pound to get there.

In conclusion, after gushing so much, we will definitely be going back to this hotel and would recommend it to anyone and everyone. We honestly can not wait to go back!

Room Tip: If you can, stay for two nights!

“Very comfortable and excellent food”

We arrived in Alnwick and called in at the Oaks on the off chance that they would have a room at a realistic price. They had and it was perfect - huge comfortable bed, plenty of room for us and our suitcases and a delicious breakfast. Dinner in the restaurant was excellent and the staff were very helpful and friendly. We would heartily recommend it and would certainly stay there again if we are in the area.

“Excellent Medium Price Inn Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 September 2010

We stayed four nights at the Oaks. Rooms and ensuite bathrooms are spacious and well furnished with good TV & wifi. The Oaks has a real pub bar with separate dining room. Breakfasts were excellent - full "Northumbrian" or local kippers. Early evening there is a low priced carvery option, after that a very good a la carte menu which was high quality and reasonably priced. Staff are all friendly and helpful. Only a five minute walk into town / the castle. Good parking on site.
Only minus is that there is some noise from road / other guests but not a major issue.
Overall was excellent value for money.

“Friendly staff, good food, nice room”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 September 2010

Stayed here for 2 nights with work in Sept 2010.
The room was a family room (not asked for - but gratefully recieved as it was huge !). Comfortable as opposed to contemporary but cosy wih good tv, nice bathroom with no problems with hot water etc. Room well stocked with biscuits / coffe etc.
We ate in the restauraunt one evening - the range of food available was impressive and the quality of all the offerings served up was very good. As mentioned in other reviews this is really a pub with rooms - but thats part of the charm as its nice to have a bar with a bit of atmosphere, well frequented by the locals, to drink in as part of your hotel ! The breakfast was very flling and tasty served by a jovial welcoming host.
On the down side the Oakes is a bit of a hike from the middle of town, 5 to 10 mins walk. ( Handy for Barter books to be fair !). My main quibble is the incredibly creaky floorboards - my room downstairs suffered from very noisy creaking from above - having worked late one night I really thught someone was knoking on my door and woke up - it was people in the room above. Also although I had excellent wifi my work colleague in a different room had none.... All in all a very nice comfortable hotel with friendly staff and good food - my only issue being the floorboards but really this is a minor issue.

“Dissapointed!”

Called in to the Oaks for a late lunch, just before 2pm. We were greeted & served by a very plessant lady behind the bar. Aked what the soup of the day was & was told French Onion, so orderd one followed by a Roast Lamb & a Beef sandwich. The soup arrived looking nothing like French Onion, was told it was Cream of Carrot, that they must have run out of the onion so had changed to a fresh soup. The Carrot soup tasted as if it had been in a Soup Kettle for a day or two, so half was left. The main courses arrived my Wifes Beef sandwich was bone dry, no hint of butter or horsradish on not nice bread. My Roast Lamb came with a selection of very tired vegetables & cold roast? potatoes it all tasted as if it had been warmed up from the day before, overall not nice, apart from the Staff who was pleasant.
