We have just got back from a short break to Holy Island and Alnwick, where we stayed for the final night at the Prudhoe Croft. Overall it was a well above average B & B. Liz the landlady was most helpful and the house has a comprehensive and informative library to help visitors enjoy their visit to the area. However, please take note of the comment above about the church bells. My wife and myself are both light sleepers , and having spent six hours for our visit to Alnwick castle we were fairly exhausted by the time we arrived back from our evening meal at Blackmore's Restaurant situated 100yds or so east of the Bondgate Tower. (Well recommended, by Liz) and collapsed into bed very early (about 9pm)
We were in the Cheviot Room at the front of the house. which, if it were double glazed, probably wouldn't have been a problem, but, as mentioned above, the church clock chimes every 15 minutes throughout the night, consequently we got NO sleep at all. Maybe, if you live in the town or city this would not be a problem, but if you live in a rural area, like us, then it certainly cannot be adjusted to in a single night. On mentioning this to Liz the next morning at breakfast the sympathy was forthcoming but in a bit of an offhand manner. "Oh, dear dear dear". I wouldn't like to put anyone off staying at the Prudhoe Croft because it is a really nicely run B & B but if you are a light sleeper, be aware.
Liz and Jim - please get the Cheviot room double, or triple glazed, for the comfort of your guests. I hope this is taken as a constructive, and not a negative review.
