“Snowed in at Rothwell - a lovely place to stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

My husband and I were visiting our daughter when we got stuck due to heavy snow. We decided to stay in a hotel as our daughter has just moved into her flat and did not have a second bed. It was a spur of the moment decision which we have not regretted. The hotel is in an older building which has lots of character and some of the old features remain which we found to be a plus! The room was spacious, very clean and tidy with tea, coffee and hot chocolate plus a kettle. The shower was very clean, very powerful, the water was piping hot and we had plenty of soft towels too. The full English breakfast the following morning was very tasty and plentiful with a choice of juices, cereal and tea and coffee also. We would stay here again ...... lovely!

Room Tip: We stayed in room 11 which was at the back of the hotel and lovely and quiet.

“"A good place to stay"”

Stayed at the Rothwell House Hotel for one night with my fiance when visiting relatives in Market Harborough and after a dreadful journey down we wanted somewhere to stay before doing the return journey..
The hotel is good we basically wanted somewhere to sleep for one night and the hotel was just right for that. It was reasonably price (I cant remember the exact price now) the room was very nice, well decorated, all nice and clean, had ensuite which was lovely. The only fault I may say is the parking can be difficult if you come very late, my fiance drove round to check in but by the time we actually came to stay it was 11pm and the car park which is quite small was full so it was hard to squeeze our car in. My relative who is slightly more familier with the area did say there is parking on the street but I never checked as we didnt need it in the end. The breakfast I found was quite basic and not the best cooked breakfast Ive ever had but for £5 you really cant go wrong..overall a good place to stay.

“Certainly improving.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 September 2011

I'd been staying at the Rothwell House Hotel regularly for almost 12 years, but stopped three years ago when the prices went up and the standards went down (someone on trip advisor said at the time, "only stay in this hotel if there are no park benches available" - he was right). However, having read some of the more recent reviews, particularly that it's under new management (yet again), I booked a colleague and myself into the hotel for two nights (14 & 15 September). I am pleased to say that there has been a considerable improvement.

No longer do you need to cart your luggage to a bar full of less than sober individuals to book in, which is a major plus.

The bedrooms we had (10 and 11, both doubles, although I'd booked singles) were clean and tidy, although the shower/toilet in room 11 needs a bit of work. The toilet bowl is loose and the wallpaper is hanging off the walls, but Rome wasn't build in a day and the new owners are at least trying.

Breakfast was excellent, as was the meal we had in the hotel on the second night. Staff couldn't be faulted and the girl who cleaned the room even folded up my clothes.

On the down side, several of the taps in the bar had no barrels connected to them and the bar itself shut at 9.30 p.m., as does the actual lounge, so there's not even an option to sit somewhere (other than the reception area). This will need to change if they want business customers. The car park is woefully small, although there's not a lot the owner can do about it and, in any case, there's free parking in the main town carpark about 50m from the hotel.

I'd stay there again and happily recommend it to anyone else.

“Excellent service, great food and lovely airy ambience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 August 2011

The food is very reasonably priced and was served with exceptional politeness in a beautifully spacious and airy room. The staff catered to our every whim and the only thing which let the experience down was the red wine which was served a few degrees above the correct temperature - that said, it probably wouldn't bother anyone a bit less fussy! Recommend the evening meal in the restaurant if nothing else.

“We will be staying here again when visiting Rockingham Speedway.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 July 2011

We stayed in room 20 which was on the top floor. All we wanted was
somewhere for a good price (£65) which was clean.

The total bill came to £85 for 2 people for 1 night/ I did question the price as we were expecting it to be £10 more.
Not sure if the breakfast was included or not - anyway, we were not charged for it.
2 course evening meal for £7.50 plus a few £s for drinks.
Full English breakfast usually costs £5.
The food was actually very nice. I think it was £7.50 for 2 courses, so we were expecting a lower standard of food, but there was no problem with it.

In the room we had a full wi-fi signal and the security key was given
to us on arrival without asking. Biscuits, hot chocolate drink and cold drink were
in the room which was nice. Drink mugs were large which is good, but not much milk. I'm sure if we wanted more all we had to do was ask.
Iron, fan, extra (electric) radiator, TV with Freeview and plenty of storage. Also, there were plenty of electrical sockets which is very good as I have lots of gadgets to charge!
The window opened wide which is nice in the summer.

The room seemed clean and quite new - but please change
the toilet brush.

The staff were helpful and we had no problems with any of them - but a little practice on approaching people in the dining room would improve things. This was not really a bad point, but we both commented on it.
The manager was also very nice and it was clear he cared about where he works and aims to provide a nice place to stay at a reasonable cost. Thats why I've included the honest comments above.

We would stay here again.
Thank you....
