We had read several reports about meals at The George, all complimentary, and we were not disappointed. We were continuing our journey around the Northants region sampling old-style country pub lunches. The welcome we received from the landlady (Margaret?) was warm and friendly, the interior of the pub was warm and traditional. There was an average sized, well equipped bar area, tables and chairs for around 20 patrons, and a separate well laid out dining area, or restaurant. We elected to eat in the bar area which was about half full of customers. There were a couple of menus to choose from, comprising a decent a-la-carte selection, and a Pub Lunch selection. Plus the obligatory black-board specials. Our drinks order was brought along promptly, we ordered our meals from the Pub Lunch selection, and these soon appeared. Good sized plates-full, piping hot, and well presented. The "Posh Sausage" selection (3 different flavors, hand made and tied supplied from a local butcher), served with spring-onion mash, peas, and gravy, was a delight. The locally made "Savoury Ducks" (Trip Advisor web-site won't accept the correct English word F****ts), with spring-onion mash, mushy peas, didn't quite meet expectations, probably because remembrance of those eaten in the past is a subjective one. No reflection on the cook!
We finished up sharing a slice of warm chocolate fudge cake with chocolate sauce and cream, this was delicious. And we would have no hesitation in returning to The George to sample their full a-la-carte menu in the restaurant.
