after travelling 5hrs we arrived at the hotel with friends, only to be told that there was only one room available when we had booked two, so our friends had to use the sister hotel,. After a bit of a disagreement with the receptionist over this were given our room key, room 23, .The corridor was badly lit properly to hide the flaking paint and dingy carpet, the room we were given was horrible, grubby greyish towels wallpaper hanging off walls ,stinking carpet, but the bathroom was the worst , the light was broken so only the shaving mirror light was working, no handle on door just a hole with the bar which used to hold the door knobs on, if you sat on the toilet you could see the bed through the hole, the sink was chipped in 4 places and there were stains from the tap drips,. the windows in bathroom wouldn't shut and were plane glass. we could here a constant loud high pinched bleeping noise coming from the smoke alarm .
I was so unimpressed that I went to reception and asked to be moved to a room that was fit to sleep in , the receptionist asked why ,when I told her the reasons stated above her reaction was " well i can take the battery out of the smoke alarm if you like" she also said they were refurbishing which I found out later off one of the staff was not the case at all and its what they say to customers as an excuse for the poor quality,
We decided to ring around to find another hotel and luckily we got into the premier inn for £5 cheaper per night, . I would not recommend this hotel (The George) to anyone it is appalling, If there was a minus rating it would be-3...
