“average”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

The previous reviews have been interesting to read and I agree with some of what has been said. The pub is pleasant, the open fires on a chilly winters day are very welcoming and the staff are friendly. The menu reads well but I was disappointed. The food was no more than average and expensive for what you had. I think that you are paying for the slate plates and fancy decoration that actually adds nothing to taste. My salad was nothing more than lettuce, onion, unripe tasteless tomatoes not forgetting half a slice of cucumber with a piece of salmon. Price was 12.95, which suggests a good profit. Excellent or exceptional cuisine, no. Good value for money, no. Lovely country pub, yes.

“Can I come every night?”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

Well this hidden gem is a must if your out and about in Northamptonshire. I could quite happily eat here every night, as well as lunch time.
I took my family for a walk around badby and as we had already tried the other pub in the village we thought we would give the maltsters a try. From the time we waked in and were greeted by the friendly lady behind the bar till the time we left we were made to feel welcome and warm by the staff and locals. We hadn't booked a table and it was a Sunday so I fully expected to be rushed out the door as soon as we asked if there was room for us. Although I would definitely book next time to assure we got a table. The decor is done with taste and trendiness but an olde worlde feeling has been kept, the log fires are amazing and even just looking at the pub from the outside....you are drawn to the englishness of it! anyway enough with the pub description......

The food.......Brie wedges....amazing! And I know my Brie wedges!!just cooked to perfection and a good plateful for a starter.
I then had a chicken and bacon salad.... Was lovely. One of the best salads I've had...chips on the side (to cancel out the salad) . Didn't have room for a pudding but it just means I'll have to go back! The food is well priced I thought, for the quality of it, it's all local and homemade obviously!

I will be recommending to anyone who will listen and will probably be frequenting more often!

“Nice Food”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 January 2012

The food was of very high quality, but sadly the meal had gone cold by the time the vegetables were dished up. Recommend the Game Casserole, it was very tasty. Score let down by the lack of staff.

“Cosy and Welcoming”

Continuing our trip around Northamptonshire trying various pub lunches, we visited The Malsters Inn at Badby on a drab, cold wet day. Our welcome from the lass behind the bar was warm and cheery , and the glowing open fire in the bar area was very much appreciated. After we had taken a table close to the fire, and with pints in hand, we browsed the menu which we found was most extensive and well priced. Quite a range of starters, available in small, medium and large sizes, mains, lunch snacks, sweets, etc. We made our selection, and the meals were served quite promptly -- there were very few customers present on the day of our visit. The presentation and plating of the meals was of a high standard, and looked most inviting. The Mediterranean chicken salad was plentiful with a good variety of salad greens, and the Open Ciabatta with back bacon, brie, and cranberry, together with salad and coleslaw, was very tasty. Both meals were of excellent quality.
After finishing our meals, then chatting with a couple of locals, we left The Malsters Inn well satisfied with our lunch selection, and looking forward to trying more Northants pub lunches.

“More than pub food!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 December 2011

Spent an enjoyable evening here with a group of friends, good service and a menu that was a bit different.

Our only comment would be, we were put in the restaurant as not room in the bar area - this was a bit lonely as no one else was using it. Would like to be sat some where different another time. Taking husband next time!
