“Don't judge a book by its cover (stayed 27-29th Jan 2012)”

Reading the website & looking at the pics we expected sheer luxury & as quoted "the best available room at the time of booking". When we made the booking room 5 (luxury suite) was available yet we got room 2, smaller than it appeared on the photo and the "luxury bathroom" was like a cupboard. You had to turn sideways when sat on the loo so you didn't burn yourself on the radiator. Note, however, this was probably the warmest part of the room as all the radiators are preset to 19.5 degrees and on asking for this to be increased we were told "my heating bill is over £5000 a year". Errr hello we paid to stay here and its January and below freezing outside!!!! We did find out who was occupying room 5 for the weekend...the owner..although on all the literature it stated that he slept in a room on the ground floor.

Plus points...the area is lovely and the food was good but....don't expect a menu choice, you are told what you are having for dinner and only stay here if you want to share your dining table with all the other guests who are in residence at the time. Making small talk at breakfast with a table full of strangers was not our idea of fun!

We also had to complain that our room was not serviced on the Saturday and so we ran out of toilet roll and the fresh milk for drinks turned to cheese!

If you are wanting a peaceful break and like the idea of feeling like you are somebody's house guest for the weekend then this is the place for you but if like us you want your weekend to be just that... YOUR'S.... then look elsewhere.

“Generous hospitality and peaceful environment”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

We stayed for 2 nights here on a great value January deal. Roger was very generous with his hospitality and all round provision without being intrusive. Meals were cooked to a very high standard and the puddings were especially good. We were introduced to two very good complementary Yorkshire wines and also enjoyed the local beers he stocked.
Our room provided everything we needed with some thoughtful additions.
We would certainly go back to Rowleth End.

Well I was looking for a peaceful and beautiful place to stay over the Christmas Holidays and I was drawn to Rowleth End.

Thank God!!!

A true gem, words simply don't do this place justice, the fabulous reviews on here are so spot on, its feel, and the genuine hospitality, Roger is by far the best host I have ever met, so attentive, caring and goes the extra mile simply and effortlessly ensuring you are happy.
Its a beautiful place inside and out, the food is delicious.
If you are thinking about going there... just go! you wont regret it!

“Absolute Luxury in Stunning Surroundings”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 December 2011

We've stayed twice at Rowleth End and had a wonderful experience both times. Our second visit was for our anniversary, and a complementary bottle of champagne awaited us. Roger's thoughtfulness and attention to detail is impeccable; he has really thought of everything that could add to your comfort and convenience.

Real tea and coffee are served on request, with a plate of biscuits, in the drawing room at any time (for free). The room includes posh soft drinks, and high quality bath products, as well as bath robes, teddy bears, and even binoculars for admiring the spectacular view over the valley. Roger is completely accommodating over things such as arrival time, using his phone, and making use of the downstairs facilities after checking out. He has laminated cards with local walks available to borrow.

Dinner is optional, and very much recommended. Good use is made of local produce. The atmosphere is of a dinner party. We enjoyed three delicious courses, plus local cheeses. Breakfast is also a magnificent spread, and filled us up for the day.

We couldn't recommend staying here highly enough. Treat yourself. With everything that's included, and it all being of such high quality, it's very good value.

“Absolute Perfection”

Just got back from a wonderfully relaxing break at Rowleth End struggling to find anything negative to stay. From start to finish everything was just right, Roger and his team of helpers have the exact balance of relaxed, friendly and welcoming hospitality without being overpowering. The food was delicious, all served in the wonderful dining room complete with crisp white linen, a roaring fire and candles, we had the dining room to ourselves and it felt like our very own Downton Abbey! If you think evening meals in a B&B aren't your thing you really should give this a try, we had 3 courses followed by cheese and coffee for £23 per head and it was such a lovely experience i cant fault it. The property is immaculate and beautifully furnished, there is a dining room, drawing room and bar with a TV all for guests to use. The attention to detail in every aspect is remarkable from the way the tables are laid to the fresh flowers in our room. Roger provides maps of local walks all listed out with directions then laminated to make it really easy to plan your route. The house itself has no TV's (other than one in the bar) which makes for a truly relaxing stay. There is such a feeling of peace in the house and it has a quiet that i don't think i have ever experienced before. We took our dog who was made to feel really welcome and enjoyed playing in the garden with Buster the resident Labrador. There are some really good pubs in the villages nearby serving home cooked food and some wonderful scenery. A wonderful, unique place that you can't fail to enjoy.

Room Tip: Room 5 is lovely
